May 2026 marks 10 years since UNSC Resolution 2286 - protecting healthcare in armed conflict. 🇳🇿 is proud to have co-led this landmark effort with Egypt, Japan, Spain, & Uruguay in 2016.
The resolution was historic, the first of its kind on this issue & supported by over 80 countries - making it one of the most widely co-sponsored UNSC resolutions.
Yet attacks on medical workers & facilities continue. This is unacceptable. Protecting healthcare is not optional. This resolution matters as much today as it did in 2016.

This partnership between KiwiRail 🇳🇿 and Stadler 🇪🇸is a significant step forward in improving performance and reliability for the entire South Island DX locomotive fleet and some of the North Island DL locomotives.

New Zealand welcomes the announcements by the United States and Iran over the past few hours - as we welcome all efforts to bring an end to this conflict.
While this is encouraging news, there remains significant important work to be done in the coming days to secure a lasting ceasefire.
We are grateful for the work of Pakistan, and others such as Turkiye and Egypt, to seek to find a solution to the crisis.
As we discussed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio today, this conflict has had wide-ranging impacts and disruptions - for both those in the Middle East and further afield including in New Zealand and the Pacific region.
In the coming days and weeks, New Zealand will stand in support of all efforts to bring about a lasting, durable end to this conflict.

They discussed global issues such as conflict in the Middle East, Spain’s priorities in the Pacific and deepening bilateral relations between our two countries, especially by leveraging strong people and cultural connections.

Four years on from Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion, New Zealand remains in steadfast solidarity with Ukraine. Today, New Zealand announced a further $8 million in humanitarian and reconstruction support for Ukrainian civilians and further sanctions to pressure Russia to end the war.
ALT NZD $125.3 million in military support, including the deployment of NZDF personnel to Europe.
ALT NZD $44.9 million in humanitarian assistance to affected communities, NZD $5.7 million for international legal processes and human rights monitoring.
ALT Sanctions imposed on more than 1,900 individuals, entities and vessels, alongside a range of trade measures.
