Ocarina of Time is getting a Switch 2 release today. that game helped define 3D adventure design. revisiting it on new hardware is a reminder that strong worlds, memorable dungeons and clever mechanics can outlast entire console generations

GTA 6 reportedly needs up to 212GB of storage, with digital pre-loading scheduled for November 10. i'm already thinking about the storage cleanup people are going to have to do. uninstalling games before a launch has become part of the ritual at this point.

this is a pretty important option for teams building with the api. getting safety reviews without handing over access to prompts and responses makes it easier to balance oversight with data privacy
Private Safety Processing lets OpenAI review related API requests for safety without retaining your prompts or responses. Records stay in your environment, where an automated safety agent reviews them without OpenAI personnel being able to access your content.

Phantom Blade Zero reportedly sold more than 4 million copies in its first three days. that's a huge opening for an action game with a distinct combat style and visual identity. players are clearly willing to show up for something that feels different from the usual release formula. now the challenge is keeping that momentum going.

99% less usage for background subagents? that’s a useful fix, especially if you’re running several agents while coding. more room to let them work without watching the meter
Background subagents in Claude Code now use less of your usage limit. A running subagent updates its status line every 30 seconds, and each update used to re-read its whole conversation. Now Haiku 5.5 writes it from short notes instead, so each update costs about 99% less.

GTA 6 pre-loading begins November 10. we're getting closer to the point where the conversation shifts from trailers and theories to people finally getting their hands on the game. i'm already thinking about how much time is going to disappear into Vice City.

my distraction until 11/19
DLSS 5 comes to more games on RTX Spark this month: 🟢 Hogwarts Legacy - Nov 5th 🟢 War Thunder - Mid-Nov 🟢 Where Winds Meet - Nov 23rd

kalshi reportedly nearly doubled to a $40bn valuation on a $1bn round co-led by sequoia and wellington, five months after its last raise. that's about 10x its reported $4bn annualised revenue. my take for founders: the multiple isn't the story, the speed is. a category with fast revenue and an open regulatory fight gets priced like a utility and a lottery ticket at the same time. if you're raising, lead with the growth and explain the legal risk before the investor does.

meta building a humanoid prototype in just three months? curious to see how far they can take this, especially when it comes to making a robot useful around the house.
META $META BUILT A HUMANOID ROBOT PROTOTYPE WITH CHINESE ROBOTICS COMPANY FOURIER The roughly 106-pound robot, called "Max" internally, was built in just 3 months, per The Information. Meta is already working on a second version. The goal is to help Meta build a more polished robot for people's homes that it could eventually sell.

so cool
Marvel held a drone show in Korea for ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ that included a transition from Iron Man to Doctor Doom.

halloween night means silent hill 2 remake for me. the fog famously started as a hardware workaround before it became the atmosphere, and it's a clean product lesson: take the constraint you can't remove and turn it into the feature. most studios hide the limit. the good ones sell it. gta vi is 19 days out and tonight i'm choosing to be scared of a foggy town instead. 🎃

Valve's Steam Frame CD-ROM support being added to the Linux kernel is such a PC gaming detail. the hardware isn't even out yet, and people are already thinking about how to make old peripherals work with it. that's the beauty of PC gaming: the community never stops finding another thing to connect.

Epic using AI coding agents to fix old Unreal Engine bugs is interesting for gaming. game development has years of legacy code, weird hardware edge cases and bugs that only appear under specific conditions. if AI can help teams trace those problems faster, players might feel the difference through fewer crashes and smoother updates.

a battery-powered robot running gemma locally with no cloud connection? now this is the kind of tech i want to see outside a demo
Meet “Reachy on Wheels” Presented at #PyTorchConf and created by @IanBallantyne and Xavier Plantaz, this Reachy Mini is powered by on-device Gemma models to talk, listen, and autonomously navigate its environment. The entire system is battery-powered and runs locally. No cloud connection required.

my gaming backlog is basically a museum of games i was excited to play. i'll spend 40 minutes deciding what to launch, play for 15, then go back to the same comfort game. at this point the backlog is part of the hobby.

one of the funniest parts of being a gamer is how quickly a small inconvenience becomes a full investigation. a game stutters once and suddenly you're checking GPU utilisation, driver versions, memory timings and three different Reddit threads. sometimes the fix is a setting you missed. sometimes it's a patch the developer needs to release. and sometimes you spend two hours troubleshooting before discovering the game was compiling shaders. PC gaming gives you control, which is great. it also gives you an unlimited number of things to blame when something goes wrong.

gta 6 reportedly being too large to fit on a standard game disc is a pretty clear sign of how much modern games have grown. but the bigger issue isn't just download size. it's what physical ownership means when the box doesn't contain the full game and the disc may function more like a key to a download. that creates practical problems for people with slow internet, limited data or a preference for keeping games playable long after the servers move on. digital distribution is convenient, and huge open worlds require a lot of assets. both things can be true while players still deserve clarity about what they're buying.
