ENS TUTORIAL CONCEPT: ApeFest access without carrying your BAYC cold wallet around Charleston 🦍 Here’s how I’d combine ENS + ZK proofs + temporary event credentials to make something like ApeFest easier AND safer. Start with the namespace BAYC already controls: bayc.eth Then create: apefest.bayc.eth That becomes the official, permanent entrance for the entire ApeFest experience. But here’s the important part... Your Ledger/Trezor holding a BAYC should be able to stay at home. Nobody wants to carry their cold wallet into bars, clubs and events all weekend just to keep proving they own an Ape. 😂 So do the important verification BEFORE the trip. HOME SETUP 🏠 Open: apefest.bayc.eth Connect the wallet holding your BAYC/MAYC and prove ownership once. Then your cold wallet signs a very limited ApeFest authorization. Something like: Event: ApeFest 2026 Delegate: my temporary event key Valid until: Oct 19, 2026 Purpose: event authentication only Transfers: NOT ALLOWED Token approvals: NONE This would be a scoped EIP-712 signature, not some unlimited wallet permission. The authorization can’t move your Ape. Can’t approve tokens. Can’t transfer NFTs. It only says: “I authorize THIS temporary key to represent my eligibility for THIS event until THIS date.” Then disconnect the cold wallet. Put it back in the safe. Now the fun part. Your phone creates a temporary event key/passkey and that becomes what you actually carry around ApeFest. 📱 No seed phrase 📱 No BAYC wallet loaded into the phone 📱 No Ledger in your pocket 📱 No signing random club links with the wallet holding your Ape At the event, ZK ties everything together. The proof can effectively show: ✅ An address currently owns an eligible BAYC/MAYC ✅ That owner authorized this temporary event key ✅ I currently control that event key ✅ The authorization is for ApeFest 2026 and hasn’t expired WITHOUT revealing: ❌ Which BAYC I own ❌ My cold-wallet address to everyone ❌ My other NFTs ❌ My balances ❌ My transaction history The verifier only learns: VALID APEFEST HOLDER ✅ And because eligibility can be checked against an updated ownership Merkle root, selling the Ape can invalidate future proofs. So an old screenshot or QR isn’t enough. At the door the question becomes: “Can this event key generate a valid proof against the CURRENT holder set?” Yes? 🦍 Welcome in. Now add ENS identity. The ZK proof handles my private membership proof. My temporary event key handles day-to-day authentication. And: apefest.bayc.eth is the trusted official entrance connecting the whole thing. That creates a really clean separation: bayc.eth → trusted BAYC namespace apefest.bayc.eth → official ApeFest portal yourname.eth → optional holder identity ZK proof → proves you currently qualify without revealing the Ape/wallet temporary event key/passkey → what you actually carry around all weekend cold wallet → stays safely at home Then after ApeFest? The temporary authorization expires. Done. No permanent permissions to revoke. No reason for the event app to keep access to your wallet. No reason to expose your main wallet at every venue. And nothing private needs to be stored in ENS records. ENS handles identity + discovery. ZK handles private proof. The temporary key handles convenience. Your cold wallet handles custody. Each layer does ONE job. This is the kind of Web3 UX I want.
