Almost full moon tonight, very bright on this cold and clear night, love the way it cast shadows outside

Who knows what impact this will have on the actual weather. But for the #SSWE fans, 62% of the 12z EPS members do show a U wind reversal at 10mb at 60 N.
Now if only we could redistribute all this water down south to drought-stricken parts of England and fill up some reservoirs, preferably new ones, then we wouldn’t be talking droughts every summer in this land of plentiful rain at certain times of year 😉
Dark by half five this evening, more time indoors over the coming months, colder and more rain, shutting the world out behind curtains. Fine by me though spending half the year more introvert, quieter with windows shut, people indoors, more time to think, be creative undisturbed

Watching the potential for a sudden stratospheric warming event in early November 👀
The key will be whether its effects couple downward into the troposphere, where they could alter weather patterns. So far, there's no clear sign of that happening.

The Clyde estuary at ‘record breaking’ levels.
Record breaking is a phrase that’s going to dominate the next year
Rather windy out there so far this morning, especially in the north, with gusts of 60-70mph common across northern England, north Wales, N. Ireland and Scotland, over 80mph in exposed locations in the northwest. #StormBoelo peak gusts this morning below 👇
Quite wet over the past 72 hours across southern and western areas of the UK, particularly across SW England and the usual wet spots in Cumbria & north Wales, but even parts of SE England have seen a decent drop of rain, Gatwick with 68.5mm (October average is 94mm).
But apart from some rivers in Wales and NW England, especially Cumbria, only a handful of flood alerts and one flood warning for rivers in England, which suggests the ground is far from saturated after prolonged dry weather this year.
2 distinct lines of convection marching SE across England & Wales this evening, if you don’t get hit by one you will likely the other, brief but you’ll know about it
Not the best place to park your vehicle when there’s a storm whipping up high seas, especially as Aberystwyth has pebbles on the shoreline
These are addictive, trying not eat the whole 100g bar!
First had Ritter Sport on holiday in Germany as a kid, was so much more exciting the varieties of chocolate they did than back home in the UK. Now they sell them in the UK, this has to be my favourite.

A weak tornado affected Portchester, Hampshire, just after midnight on 23 October, with a 1.6 km land track. It was associated with heavy showers that moved inland from the Channel, linked to Storm Austen. More details to follow after the analysis has concluded.
A reminder that the clocks go back tonight, so we gain an hour, but it does mean darker evenings will be accelerated, so instead of sunset in London today at 17:48 (not that we’ll see it) sunset tomorrow will be at 16:46
Pretty much raining across all of the UK simultaneously this afternoon, this doesn’t happen very often #StormBoelo
Trees giving some colour outside the office window on an otherwise dull, grey and wet afternoon, even the numerous parakeets that live here have given up flying around in flocks
#StormBoelo has got a swirl on to the northwest, explosive cyclogenesis over the North Atlantic during the last 24hrs looking at the surface pressure animation
