๐ท๏ธ The scary truth?
Living costs rise, but UK State Pensions in Canada stay frozen. Every year, their pensions buy less and lessโฆ
This Halloween, help CABP shine a light on the pensioners left out in the cold.

Doug Ford has cancelled the elections of 8 regional chairs, passed legislation to allow for mayors to override the votes of two thirds of councillors, and is refusing to allow school board trustees to assume the offices we elected them to.
He's now more powerful than he's ever been before.

This has to be the least educated response to Ontarioโs hospital overcrowding problem. But this is what the profiteers want. Sabotage the public system, bring in the profiteers and watch the profits grow. @ChrisSpoke

Hallway medicine, EMS stretcher medicine, and chair medicine remains a serious problem in Ontario ERs. Premier Ford promised to eliminate it. Instead it exploded under his leadership. Hospital underfunding remains a serious problem. By @AidanChamandy

29th October 1896 Evening Express. Clyne Castle Fire. THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. โThe fire at Clyne Castle was practically extinguished by half-past ten. The tower or centre wing presented a ruined appearance, without roof or windows, and smoke ascended from the debris beneath.โ

This extraordinary photograph shows HMS Foudroyant, launched in 1798 and once Admiral Horatio Nelsonโs flagship in the Mediterranean.
Nearly a century later, the veteran warship was being exhibited around Britain when, on 16 June 1897, a violent storm tore her from her moorings off Blackpool and drove her onto the sands near North Pier.
Her crew were rescued, but Foudroyant could not be saved. The great wooden warship gradually broke apart, becoming an astonishing attraction for Victorian visitors who could walk right up to the wreck at low tide.
A remarkable end for a ship that had served in Nelsonโs navy.

๐ป Frozen UK State Pensions are the real Halloween horror.
100,000+ UK State pensioners in Canada receive no annual increases. Their pensions remain frozen while living costs rise.
Itโs time to end this chilling injustice.

Every single year, autumn takes my breath away. I always write it off as the harbinger of the dark days of winter and forget just how perfect it is, with its gentle, unassuming beauty. Walking on this quiet path, all around me was the drip of mist from the leaves, a soft light that fell so slowly, and gold, gold, gold, everywhere I looked.

"This was filmed last Thursday at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The officer is Sergeant Alan Briggs. He's 44 years old. Twelve-year veteran of the Colorado Springs Police Department. The dog is Bruno, a nine-year-old German Shepherd. They were partners for eight years. Bruno joined the force at fourteen months old. Trained in narcotics detection and patrol support. He and Alan were paired in the spring of Alan's sixth year on the force. From that first week, Alan said Bruno worked like he'd been waiting his whole life to do exactly that job. Eight years. Hundreds of calls. Bruno never missed a shift. Earlier this year, Bruno began slowing down significantly. A serious illness had progressed through his system over several months despite treatment. By October, Bruno had stopped eating consistently. Stopped lifting his head fully when Alan came into the room. The veterinary team sat with Alan two weeks ago and walked him through what was coming. Alan requested that Bruno's final day be spent at home first. They drove to their favorite trail in the morning. Bruno walked as far as he could. Alan carried him the rest of the way. At the clinic that afternoon, Alan sat down on the floor rather than placing Bruno on the examination table. He said he didn't want Bruno's last position to be somewhere unfamiliar and cold. He held Bruno in his arms on the floor, back against the wall. The vet, Dr. Melissa Horan, prepared the procedure. She told us she's been practicing for nineteen years. She has learned to give families as long as they need. Alan leaned down and pressed his face against Bruno's head. He spoke to him quietly. Told him he had been the best partner anyone could ask for. Told him he didn't have to hold on anymore. Bruno lifted both front paws. Slowly. The way a person reaches up when they want to be held. He wrapped them around Alan's shoulders and pulled himself closer. Alan held on. Dr. Horan told us she set down what she was holding and waited. She said: "I've been in this room for a lot of final moments. What Bruno did in that moment was one of the most deliberate things I've ever seen an animal do.

โMy friends, you know me. I am for the little guy, for the peopleโฆmy plan is to get rid of hallway health care,โ said Doug Ford in 2018.
Meanwhile today, we learn from Trillium reporting that Ontarioโs hallway health crisis is worse than ever.

The worsening crisis of hospital overcrowding is totally solvable and isnโt because of publicly funded healthcare. The problem is we havenโt strongly enough demanded an end to hallway care. Docs have demanded change to no avail. @mattgurney

The Chancellor has recognised the importance of protecting pensioners' incomes, introducing a new tax allowance and outlining reforms to the Triple Lock to safeguard future State Pension increases.
But where is that same commitment to the more than 400,000 British pensioners living overseas whose State Pensions remain frozen, despite having contributed to the same National Insurance system?
While the Government takes steps to protect pensioners' incomes today and for future generations, hundreds of thousands remain denied annual increases altogether, watching the value of their pensions erode year after year.
Fairness in retirement should not depend on where you live. This Budget was an opportunity to address a longstanding inequality in the State Pension system, yet once again, frozen pensioners have been forgotten.

Ontarioโs hallway health care numbers have hit unprecedented highs:
On an average day in Jan 2025, Ontario hospitals treated 2,088 patients in hallways, break rooms and other spaces never meant for care.
It was the most since Ontario Health began tracking the number in 2017 and 52 per cent more than January 2018, the winter before Doug Ford won a majority government promising to end hallway health care.

A remarkable piece of First World War film showing wounded soldiers and nurses at an army hospital in Wandsworth during the rehabilitation process.
Rather than lying in their wards, the recovering men are outside taking part in sports and games. Recreation and exercise became an important part of rehabilitation, helping wounded servicemen rebuild their strength and morale, before discharge, or if able a return to military service
Wandsworth was a major centre for treating wounded soldiers during the war. Wandsworth Council records that more than 62,000 patients were treated during the war.
