Also, getting their time to the plate is irrelevant if you go from initial leg lift. You have to start the clock when he reaches his point of no return to the plate. He’s not the 1.7 he appears to be if he’s a read move lefty. He’s effectively much quicker.
Hard to run, especially 1st move, against a LHP with a true “read move.”

What purpose does it serve to be condescending? What’s the motivation? I want to know @tangotiger @ToirtapB

Surely you aren’t saying there’s Zito curveballs being thrown regularly in college baseball.
Barry Zito is throwing pitches that D3 hitters today are seeing on a regular basis. I don’t think any other sport has had a larger jump in quality over the last 10-15

Extremely rough draft and AI explanation of wBPPA. Used an article @tangotiger sent me for help and inspiration. Ironically he sent me the article to tell me this has been done before, and it's not worth it. I'm having fun and that's what matters. tht.fangraphs.com/bases-and-…

Dec 24 to Sept 20 is 270 days Full-term is 280 days... include preemies, and 270 days is probably the average March 30 (~Opening Day) to Dec 25 is 270 days Funny how XMas is the most popular day for one part and the least popular day for the other

I present to you my personal hitting metric: BPPA (Bases Per Plate Appearance) It simply answers the question, how many bases do you obtain each time you step to the plate? Total Bases+SB+BB+HBP-CS-K-GIDP)/ Plate Appearances. Here's the top 25 compared to wOBA. (A thread)

It inherently punishes strikeouts, probably too much I will admit, but I also think strikeouts are not statistically punished enough most of the time. All outs are not created equal. A BIP that's not a hit can produce an RBI, an error, move a runner, etc.

There are other very similar statistics out there. Specifically a man named Bill Gilbert created essentially an identical formula, the only difference being that it didn't subtract strikeouts. I would have loved to talk offensive production with him! RIP

That’s right, KT!
This team is coming on 👊🏻 Played well Friday against Texas and broke through with big ranked win this afternoon! Great support by @ArkRazorbacks fans all weekend. Let’s continue the momentum 🐗🏐

How did I not follow you earlier? Freaking beast!!! Keep it simple don’t be a robot.
If a hitter has a steep path, he might need to feel like he is swinging up to match pitch plane. If a hitter is “collapsing the back side” (old school terminology) he might need to think and feel like he is swinging down to get on plane! There isn’t one path, name of the game is to match plane and create room for error.

Some will call this boring, people who actually know anything about hitting will immediately know how good it is.
I don’t have all the answers but I love baseball because of the ups and downs and constant grind. So here’s some thoughts for the “X hitting” war that is going on right now.

I always feel the need to ask this. Are we talking “swing up” or “swing down” relative to a true 0° or relative to the incoming angle of the pitch?
Ted Williams figured this shit out 80 years ago and we still have retarded boomers trying to say guys in the steroid era swung down on the ball

Horrible take. Referencing errors as the primary indicator of defensive capability in the OF in 2026 is egregious. Also describing his defense as good is a huge undersell. Look at OAA and other stats on baseball savant if you need guidance.
The hype surrounding PCA from the mainstream media is crazy. WAR applies too much weight on defense, and defensive sabermetrics are highly unreliable. His defense is good, but also prone to errors (most by all CF this year). I'd always take Acuña '23 or Ohtani '24 over PCA '26.

It’s not fun to point to Outfield Defense as a big part of player value, but it is whether you believe it or not. 30ish% of PCA’s WAR total is coming from defense. If you think that’s too high, think about turning a double into an out and how that changes an inning.

Calling this season historically good is fair and accurate. I understand Ohtani went 50/50, but he didn’t play possibly the best CF of the modern era while doing it. It’s going to be a top 50, maybe higher, WAR season ever.

I can’t prove it for sure, but Razorback Football started going downhill when Dixie Cafe shut down. You can’t take that Shepherd’s Pie out of a community and expect everything to be ok….

Really confused by people being mad at Lane Kiffin. Is he not just doing what the rules allow? Genuine question.
