Part of today will be turning off the “microservices” bloatware. Less than 20% are actually needed for Twitter to work!
I still can't get over this, one of the most important "natural experiments" to come from COVID: washingtonpost.com/opinions/… It's all right there in front of us, a free lunch pathway to reducing some of the most immense cruelty in our society.

Ah, a pivot to video. Brilliant.

Musk wants Twitter to take on YouTube. He is tasking employees with making a program to pay creators to post video on Twitter and somehow earn rev share. (Will likely add to his already deep expenses — Musk said the company could have negative cash flow in the billions next year)

everyone is dunking on tennessee for this without realizing that they are only the fifth state to abolish slavery with no exceptions (CO, NE, UT, RI). it’s not an “ooh backward southern state” thing it’s that slavery is still legal for incarcerated people in most of the US.
BREAKING: Slavery has officially been banned as punishment in Tennessee. fox13.tv/3WO7KXk

This is dumb, but sadly this is kind of the norm for tech in non-tech companies. (They all say the want 50% coding too but it never actually happens) Most places that have more than 1 dev team have managers with 20+ reports.

The German Government has set up its own #Mastodon server so all its official accounts are easy to find. Validation going the same way as email: if you're on the official domain, you work for us. (HT @anthonyzach) social.bund.de/explore

Using *all this* as an excuse to move over to mastodon/cohost. Prolly take awhile to find people i follow here. But at the same time Iunno...this is starting to feel kinda freeing? The other feeds dont update every second, so im not as obsessive checking them.

Could this be the key or turning point to learning how to *enjoy* the internet again?
