I still can't get over this, one of the most important "natural experiments" to come from COVID: washingtonpost.com/opinions/… It's all right there in front of us, a free lunch pathway to reducing some of the most immense cruelty in our society.

Ah, a pivot to video. Brilliant.

Musk wants Twitter to take on YouTube. He is tasking employees with making a program to pay creators to post video on Twitter and somehow earn rev share. (Will likely add to his already deep expenses — Musk said the company could have negative cash flow in the billions next year)

everyone is dunking on tennessee for this without realizing that they are only the fifth state to abolish slavery with no exceptions (CO, NE, UT, RI). it’s not an “ooh backward southern state” thing it’s that slavery is still legal for incarcerated people in most of the US.
BREAKING: Slavery has officially been banned as punishment in Tennessee. fox13.tv/3WO7KXk

This is why I think Cohost, of all the options that are available, is probably the most likely to steal Twitter's userbase *IF* they can scale up their operation quickly enough. The UX is something of a Twitter/Tumblr mix and it's centralized.

The labor shortage at the U of M has become so severe that they're flying in temporary cooks from out of state and putting them up in hotels... I downloaded an app and in about 20 minutes became a cook earning more than the union worker who trained me minnesotareformer.com/2022/1…

IBM once had an official corporate campus in Second Life which thousands of employees used every day for meetings and planning. And then 1500+ labor union protesters from IBM's Italy branch showed up. Including a sign-waving giant banana.

If you have any negative condition that would cause you to align with fascists, then fascism will work to create those conditions. The only acceptable posture toward fascism is absolute and total defiance and opposition.

I don’t know how to explain to people that if you’re willing to support fascists when the economy is bad, it incentivize fascists to ruin the economy.

Yep. And, just so, it’s a developer superpower to be able to *quickly* build enough of a local mental model to be able to debug things in an unknown codebase. That kind of rapid mental scaffolding is something you can really only learn how to do by practicing it.
