I Heard It Through the Grapevine was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong in 1966. Marvin Gaye recorded his version in 1967, but Berry Gordy (head of Motown) did not want to release it as a single, he preferred the more upbeat and gospel version of Gladys Knight & the Pips, which had already been a major hit (#2 on the Hot 100 in 1967). Marvin's recording was hidden as a simple track from the album In the Groove (1968). But the radio DJs started playing his version without permission and the audience loved it. Motown was forced to release as a single in October 1968. The result: it became Marvin's first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending seven weeks at the top (Motown's biggest hit so far).

Bob Uecker sits beside himself in the last row at Miller Park, April 25, 2014. The Brewers put his statue in Section 422, a salute to his Miller Lite ad line, "I must be in the front row!" The view even comes partly blocked by a beam. The Brewers' voice since 1971 made sure everyone laughed. What is your favorite Uecker line? ⚾ #BobUecker #Brewers (AP Photo/Morry Gash)

Hubie Brown and Cotton Fitzsimmons in February 1985 on Seattle SuperSonics All-Star Jack Sikma: Hubie Brown on Sikma commanding defensive attention: "Jack Sikma is a great player. Not a good player, but a great player. He's a proven player under pressure. I don't think when you're his coach, you're gonna go to any other people. You just go to Sikma and make other people double and triple team him." Cotton Fitzsimmons on Sikma's hard-nosed playing style: "I've always been an admirer of Jack Sikma. He still looks and runs like he ought to be behind a plow or pulling a Budweiser wagon. He's a plugger. He knows the game and plays it hard."

"You're early, but hang around; We'll have a fight for you sooner or later." "Blue Moon" Odom to sportswriter`s entering clubhouse a day after a fracas between teammates Reggie Jackson and Bill North, and summarizing the team chemistry of the 1974 Oakland Athletics. Bill North made a remark that infuriated Reggie Jackson and ignited a locker-room brawl. Jackson, who was not yet dressed for the game, charged North and the two wrestled on the floor, in full view of teammates and sportswriters. Catcher Ray Fosse, pitcher Vida Blue and others were able to separate the two, only to have the combatants tangle again a few minutes later. When the dust settled, the consensus was that North had won the fight. Jackson ended up with a bruised shoulder and battered ego. Fosse suffered a separated cervical disk in the melee and was out of action until late in the season. "It wasn’t a regular clubhouse fight", said an A’s teammate anonymously. "There was no backing off. They went at it hot and heavy: Twice." As the knock-down, drag-out fight continued, in the middle of the clubhouse some the A’s were playing a game of bridge. As Jackson and North rolled around the clubhouse, the game went on. "I had a slam bid I wanted to play, and damned if people were fighting. I still played it." Dick Green. In his biography, Reggie Jackson wrote: "Bill North was a feisty little guy with a hair-trigger temper, and one of the reasons he was such a winner on the field was because he had a lot of piss and vinegar in him."
