Well well - look at what PMC Road dept has come up with as an excuse for building a 200m road that will destroy ~ 500 trees. Apparently it's necessary for future traffic diversions when Metro construction starts on Karve road along the Mrutyunjay mandir stretch! One wonders why no new roads for diversion were needed when the Metro was under construction on the much busier part of Karve road from Garware college to Paudphata. RTI documents show that in June 2026, a hurried GB resolution was passed granting a lease for an amenity space there to an NGO headed by the same builder heading Gravity Constructions, the firm building a massive mall just opposite. Will 100s of trees be sacrificed for an old age home or is the 'vrudhashram' just a front to grab this prime land? So many questions! Neither PMC nor the nagarsevaks have any answers Tip: When PMC is in a desperate hurry to build a road, bypassing all environmental norms, you can be 100% sure that a builder is in the picture. Dig a little deeper and some politician's name will also turn up. Pune has become a city planned by builders and for builders. The ordinary citizen barely has a say😔

After seeing Safed Sagar, like everyone, I Googled about what those heroes were doing now. Like the QT about Gp Cpt Abhinandan Varthaman flying with Fly 91, many of our Kargil Air Force heroes are also now pilots for commercial airlines. Gp Cpt Nachiketa, Wg Cdr Bal Reddy, Wg Cdr Jitendra Sangwan, Wg Cdr Amit Gupta and others are currently flying with Indigo and Air India. Some of us surely would have flown in flights where these heroes would've been the pilots, going about their second innings quietly without drawing attention to themselves. How different must their civilian lives be, having to live with inefficiencies and bureaucracy, after having shown such exemplary courage and having put their lives on the line. 🫡
