Sheikh Hasina gives 5 points to restore stability in #Bangladesh ———— People's leader #SheikhHasina has addressed the nation for the first time since the political upheaval. She delivered the speech through an audio message at an event titled 'Save #Democracy in Bangladesh' organized at the Foreign Correspondents' Club (FCC) in New Delhi, India. Sheikh Hasina accused the Interim Government's Chief Advisor @Yunus_Centre of leading an 'illegal, violent' administration. In her speech, she repeatedly referred to @ChiefAdviserGoB as a 'squatter', 'money launderer' and 'power-hungry traitor'. Sheikh Hasina said, "Bangladesh is standing on the brink of destruction today." She alleged that the country has now become "a huge prison, a slaughterhouse and a valley of death." She claimed that #humanrights are being trampled, press freedom has been abolished and #violence against women and minorities is spreading. Describing the August 5 uprising as a “carefully orchestrated conspiracy,” Sheikh Hasina said that democracy in Bangladesh has been in exile since that day. According to her, law and order in the country currently does not exist and #mobviolence, looting and extortion have taken hold from the capital to the villages. She blamed extremist groups and foreign interests for this. Sheikh Hasina claimed that Dr. Yunus is pushing Bangladesh towards a larger regional conflict by handing over national resources and strategic interests to foreign powers. She said, “By deceiving the nation, the murderous fascist Yunus is leading our beloved motherland towards disaster.” Sheikh Hasina raised five main demands in her speech to restore stability in Bangladesh: 1. Remove the ‘illegal Yunus administration’ to ensure an environment for free and fair elections. 2. Restore public security by stopping daily violence. 3. Provide strong assurances for the protection of religious minorities, women and vulnerable populations. 4. Close politically motivated cases against #Journalists and @albd1971 leaders and activists and restore the impartiality of the judiciary. 5. The @UN must conduct a "new and impartial investigation" into the events of the past year. Finally, he claimed the #AwamiLeague as the "only legitimate guardian" of democracy in Bangladesh and called on the pro-liberation forces of the liberation war to unite to restore the constitution. At one point in his speech, #Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina also challenged Yunus to fight against her in any seat. @sajeebwazed @nytimes @amnesty @UN_HRC @UN_News_Centre @WSJ @UNHumanRights @ALBDMedia @UN @BBC @Reuters @UN_SDG @AP @hrw @HRUpdatesbd @bdwatch2024 @ANI @MHCN983 @MAarafat71 @ctgchatter @saddamhussainbd @ArifaRahmanRuma

Bangladesh Faces Twin Dengue and Measles Outbreaks Bangladesh is facing a worsening public health crisis. Dengue has claimed 384 lives, with 123,948 cases, while measles has killed 1,227 people, mostly children. Currently, 14,193 patients are hospitalised with the two diseases. Experts blame vaccination gaps, weak prevention and inadequate disease-control measures. With thousands fighting for their lives, is the government doing enough to contain the crisis? #Bangladesh #Dengue #Measles #PublicHealth⁩

BNP is repeating the pattern of its 2001–06 regime. With 1971 war criminals in positions of power, freedom fighters face harassment while Jamaat supporters seek revenge on behalf of their convicted leaders.
Witnesses in 1971 #WarCrimes Trials Face Continuing Violence and Intimidation in #Bangladesh. From #Pirojpur to #Sunamganj, witnesses who testified against perpetrators of atrocities during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War, along with their families, continue to face threats, intimidation, and violence in post-August 2024 “new” Bangladesh. Two recent incidents highlight the growing concerns over the safety of those who helped bring perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity to justice. Pirojpur: Manik Posari’s Family’s Ordeal Continues We recently highlighted the disturbing incident involving the funeral and burial of Manik Posari, a veteran of the 1971 Liberation War and a prosecution witness in the war crimes case against former #JamaatEIslami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi. Following Posari’s death on 24 October 2026, Jamaat activists and supporters obstructed his funeral and burial in Pirojpur. The intimidation was so severe that his sister, Hena Begum, and his wife had to dig his grave themselves, as others were too frightened to come forward and assist them. Hena Begum subsequently spoke out to the media, publicly exposing the harassment and intimidation faced by her family and challenging attempts by Jamaat to downplay the incident. For daring to speak out, she reportedly became the target of further threats of physical violence. Over the following days, Hena received repeated threats to her safety. Eventually, fearing for her life, she was forced to abandon her home in Chitolia village of Shankarpasha Union in Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. By the time she fled on Wednesday, 28 October, several other relatives of Manik Posari had reportedly already left their homes because of similar security concerns. The ordeal of Manik Posari’s family is particularly disturbing because the intimidation did not end with his death. Even after his burial, his relatives continue to face threats for their association with a man who testified against those accused of committing atrocities in 1971. News: en.bddigest.com/sister-of-ma… Sunamganj: Home and Shop of War Crimes Witness Vandalised and Looted; Family Threatened and Attacked. In another deeply troubling incident, the home and business establishment of Dulal Mia, a prosecution witness in a 1971 war crimes case, were attacked, vandalised, and looted in Daulatpur village of Shalla Upazila, Sunamganj, late Thursday night. Dulal Mia had testified in proceedings involving five individuals accused of atrocities during the Liberation War. His testimony contributed to the prosecution's case against the accused. His involvement in the pursuit of justice was deeply personal. Dulal lost seven members of his family, including his father, during the 1971 Liberation War. In 2016, he became a prosecution witness in a war crimes complaint against five individuals, including Tota Tailors and Jalil Mia. According to family members, Dulal had been receiving threats from individuals against whom he testified since the political upheaval of August 2024. The intimidation allegedly intensified after some of the accused were recently granted bail. Late Thursday night, unidentified attackers targeted Dulal’s home and shop, vandalising the premises and looting valuables. At least five people were injured in the attack. The family also alleged attempted sexual violence against female relatives. News: newagebd.net/post/law-order/… A Disturbing Pattern of Intimidation These incidents are more than isolated acts of harassment or criminal violence. They raise serious concerns about the safety of witnesses who participated in Bangladesh’s efforts to secure accountability for the atrocities committed during the 1971 Liberation War. The Bangladeshi authorities must urgently investigate these incidents, ensure the protection of the affected witnesses and their families, and hold those responsible for threats, intimidation, and violence accountable. …

#Bangladesh 2024: Was the World Told the Whole Truth? August 2024. Bangladesh witnessed a dramatic political upheaval that changed the course of its history. But a crucial question remains: Did the world get the full picture? A Firstpost opinion article raises serious questions about the international narrative surrounding the events of 2024 and the United Nations’ role in shaping the global response. If major international assessments relied on incomplete information or unverified allegations, the consequences extend far beyond Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh deserve more than competing political narratives. They deserve transparency, credible evidence, independent scrutiny, and accountability. No international institution should be above questioning. No allegation should replace evidence. And no nation’s political future should be shaped by a story that has not been rigorously examined. The question is simple: Will the world examine every claim, every piece of evidence, and every decision? Bangladesh deserves the truth.⁩ #BangladeshCrisis

#Bangladesh: Arrests Over ‘Joy Bangla’ Slogan Raise Serious Concerns About Freedom of Political Expression. At least 84 people detained in 13 reported incidents between 18 February and 31 October 2026; two additional alleged detentions remain disputed. The arrest and detention of dozens of people in Bangladesh in connection with chanting the slogan “Joy Bangla” raise serious concerns about the protection of freedom of expression, political opinion and peaceful assembly under the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (#BNP) government. Previously, we shared research by “The Dacca” which showed that at least 30 people have been arrested in the last eight months for criticising the Prime Minister, his family members, and BNP ministers and MPs. Today, we present our own research into arrests during the same period simply for uttering the slogan “Joy Bangla”. A review of news reports covering the period from 18 Feb to 31 Oct 2026 identifies at least 13 incidents involving 84 people taken into police custody following allegations related to chanting “Joy Bangla”. Two additional alleged temporary detentions in a separate incident remain disputed, bringing the broader reported figure to 86 people across 14 incidents. These incidents occurred in a variety of settings, including Independence Day commemorations, funeral prayers, university premises, court compounds, police stations, political gatherings and public demonstrations. Particularly concerning is the misuse of the Anti-Terrorism Act in several cases involving political slogans. The available reports raise questions about the misuse of criminal law to penalise peaceful political expression rather than address genuine threats to public safety. (A list of the major incidents is provided separately in the next post). Freedom of Expression Cannot Be Selective Freedom of expression is not limited to popular, neutral or government-approved opinions. It protects political speech precisely because such expression may be controversial, unpopular or opposed by those exercising state power. Article 39 of the Constitution of Bangladesh guarantees freedom of thought and conscience and protects freedom of speech and expression, subject to constitutionally permitted restrictions. Bangladesh is also a party to the Int’l Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 protects freedom of opinion and expression, Article 21 safeguards peaceful assembly, and Article 9 prohibits arbitrary arrest and detention. Under both constitutional as well as int’l human rights law, restrictions on political expression must satisfy the requirements of legality, legitimate purpose, necessity and proportionality. Merely expressing support for a political party, historical figure or ideological position cannot, by itself, justify arrest or criminal prosecution. Even where a political organisation has been prohibited or its activities restricted, individuals retain their fundamental rights. The mere utterance of a slogan associated with such an organisation does not automatically constitute participation in unlawful activities or establish criminal liability. Calls for Immediate Action In light of the documented incidents, BDWatch urges the Bangladesh Government to end arrests and prosecutions based solely on peaceful political expression, including the chanting of political slogans, irrespective of the political organisation or ideology associated with them. BDWatch further urges a review all cases involving arrests linked to the “Joy Bangla” slogan, discontinue proceedings unsupported by evidence of a recognisable criminal offence, and release individuals detained solely for exercising protected rights. (Research period: 18 February–31 October 2026. Figures are drawn from identified news reports and include people taken into police custody, not exclusively those formally arrested) BDWatch | 01 November 2026 … @Irenekhan @hrw @amnestysasia @ESandersFCDO

A historic milestone for Bangladesh! 🇧🇩 ——— Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant’s Unit-1 has begun power start-up operations, bringing Bangladesh closer to generating its first nuclear electricity. With 1,200 MW from each of its two reactors (2,400 MW combined), Rooppur promises greater energy security, a diversified energy mix, industrial growth and reduced dependence on imported fossil fuels. Once connected to the national grid, Bangladesh will become the world’s 33rd nuclear power-producing nation. This is the realization of a visionary ambition pursued under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. From planning to implementation, her government laid the foundation for Bangladesh to enter the nuclear energy era. A landmark achievement for Bangladesh. A legacy of ambition, vision and progress. #Bangladesh #SheikhHasina #NuclearPower⁩

Crushed by the Government: Bangladesh's Garment Workers Fight for a BDT 30,000 Minimum Wage Shedding blood on the streets, workers refuse to retreat - across Dhaka and its industrial outskirts, workers rise up demanding a fair wage At the end of each month, half of a garment worker's wage disappears into rent. What remains must stretch across rice, lentils, cooking oil, children's schooling and an ailing mother's medicine, and it never does. These are the people whose sweat powers Bangladesh's export economy, the world's second-largest apparel exporter after China, employing more than four million workers. Yet today, they go hungry. Under the shelter of the illegitimate government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), market cartels have driven the prices of essential goods ever higher, while workers' wages remain frozen. The pockets of those in power grow heavier as workers' plates grow emptier. One protesting worker, Sharifa Begum, put it simply: either bring down the prices of daily necessities, or raise our wages. The demand for a minimum monthly wage of BDT 30,000 (about US$243) is therefore no exaggeration. Under the regime's oppression, it is the bare minimum needed to survive. Those same hungry workers are now on the streets. On Saturday, 31 October, for the second consecutive day, hundreds of garment workers blocked major intersections in Mirpur, a densely populated neighbourhood of the capital, Dhaka. Instead of listening to them, the illegitimate BNP government deployed additional riot police and armed police units. In Gazipur, an industrial city near Dhaka, workers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway, a key entry route into the capital, forcing every factory along a 13-kilometre stretch to shut for the day. Protests also erupted in Ashulia, another garment hub near Dhaka. For months, workers in Dhaka and its surrounding industrial zones have pressed three clear demands: a minimum wage of BDT 30,000, an end to blacklisting (barring workers who protest from future employment), and payment of overdue wages. But the regime has sided with factory owners and unleashed its henchmen against them. In Dhaka's Uttara area, police used batons, stun grenades, tear gas and water cannons, leaving at least 50 people injured. For the "crime" of raising their demands, many workers have been blacklisted across the industry. Meanwhile, factories keep closing. According to a report by the rights group JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF), 457 garment factories shut down between August 2024 and June 2026, leaving more than 240,000 workers unemployed. The BNP-led administration has remained indifferent, while factory owners have even sought to postpone the next wage review until 2028. By contrast, under former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, wages were reviewed regularly through the government's Minimum Wage Board, and measures were taken to improve workers' lives, including housing support and maternity leave. Today, under the illegitimate BNP government, workers are met only with batons and guns. The days of silent endurance are over. A minimum wage of BDT 30,000, an end to blacklisting, justice for the attacks on workers, and rehabilitation for those who lost their jobs: the struggle will continue until these demands are met. Global brands profiting from Bangladeshi garments must not look away. Just as the wheels of industry never stop turning, the call for a fair wage against the oppression of the illegitimate BNP government can no longer be silenced. The Plagiarism of Progress: Why the Japan-Bangladesh Alliance Remains Sheikh Hasina’s Enduring Legacy --- An unprecedented political transition in Dhaka has brought with it an equally unprecedented display of diplomatic opportunism. While the official state apparatus orchestrates high-profile summits and loops through foreign capitals, a carefully engineered narrative is being pushed to project a historic dawn of international diplomacy—a brand-new era of global integration designed entirely from scratch. Yet, a rigorous look at the fine print, the legal drafts, and the concrete history of Bangladesh's international portfolios reveals a glaring truth: the vast majority of the landmark bilateral frameworks, economic treaties, and megaprojects currently being executed were fully conceptualized, negotiated, and built by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. What the nation is witnessing across its media landscape is a calculated campaign of historical erasure and political plagiarism. Incapable of generating immediate diplomatic momentum of its own, the current political discourse has resorted to hijacking the heavy lifting, complex diplomacy, and developmental legacy of the Awami League administration, dressing it up as an overnight success. Hijacking the Economic Partnership Agreement: The ultimate crown jewel of Bangladesh's current trade diplomacy—the formal signing of the Japan-Bangladesh Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)—is being trumpeted as a rescue package personally engineered to protect the nation's trade advantages ahead of its Least Developed Country (LDC) graduation. This narrative is a fabrication that insults the intelligence of the electorate. Comprehensive trade treaties like an EPA do not materialize out of thin air in a matter of months, nor are they drafted overnight. The exhaustive joint feasibility studies for this exact EPA were officially launched in late 2022 under the direct oversight of the Awami League government. By April 2023, during Sheikh Hasina’s high-profile summit in Tokyo, the bilateral relationship was elevated to a "Strategic Partnership," and the foundational frameworks, tariff-line negotiations, and draft texts were already being rigorously hammered out by her commerce and foreign ministries. The path to this vital economic safety net was entirely paved by Hasina’s technocrats, who spent years meticulously welding its legal and regulatory components together. The Lazy Rebranding of the "BIG-B" Framework: The deception becomes even more transparent when examining the physical megaprojects anchoring the Japan-Bangladesh relationship. The bedrock of Tokyo's historic developmental commitment to Dhaka is the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (BIG-B) initiative. This massive, visionary blueprint was co-authored and launched all the way back in 2014 by Sheikh Hasina and the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. During recent summits, the current administration introduced a superficial, semantic alteration, renaming the framework "BIG-B for Shared Prosperity." This clumsy wordplay is a desperate attempt to slap a new political logo onto an Awami League masterpiece. The actual, tangible components of this framework—the Matarbari Deep-Sea Port, the Dhaka Metro Rail (MRT) network expansions, and the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Third Terminal—were fully planned, structured, funded via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and largely constructed under the visionary leadership of the Awami League. The Matarbari Deep-Sea Port, which is single-handedly transforming Bangladesh into a regional maritime powerhouse, stands as a monument to Hasina's long-term geopolitical strategy. To imply that the post-transition regime is the architect of this maritime leap forward is an act of breathtaking political arrogance. They are merely executing the downstream, administrative finalities of a multi-billion dollar developmental assembly line that has been running smoothly since 2014. Plagiarizing Maritime Security Triumphs: The pattern of deceptive credit-taking extends into the highly sensitive realm of national defense. The current administration has loudly cheered the finalization of grants for advanced maritime patrol vessels under Japan’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) framework, pretending this represents a breakthrough in defense ties secured by their new leadership. Once again, the record thoroughly debunks their spin. Bangladesh’s inclusion in the elite OSA framework was finalized and locked in by defense planners in late 2023 under the Awami League administration. Dhaka was chosen as one of the first four global recipients of this highly selective Japanese military aid, alongside strategic nations like the Philippines. The initial delivery of five Navy patrol boats and the complex maritime security protocols were fully ironed out under Hasina's tenure. The incoming government is merely accepting the delivery of keys to a fleet ordered and paid for by their predecessors. The Vacuum of Originality: It is an established reality of global diplomacy that states honor continuity. Tokyo’s massive financial and strategic investments in Bangladesh are predicated on the country's geographic reality and economic potential—factors that the Awami League skillfully leveraged for over a decade. Japan is honoring its commitments to the state of Bangladesh, not endorsing the political party currently occupying the seat of power. While the post-transition government points to routine, newly signed loan packages for local governance as proof of their current diplomatic efficacy, this is a drop in the bucket compared to the ocean of development capital secured during the Awami League's golden decade of infrastructure building. Beyond these minor, routine adjustments and an ambiguous proposal for a tech park, the current administration's diplomatic ledger is entirely blank. True statesmanship requires the humility to acknowledge institutional inheritance. By attempting to erase a decade of developmental history, the current regime exposes its own deep-seated insecurity and absolute vacuum of original economic policy. The megaprojects altering the skyline, the trade treaties buffering the economy, and the naval assets protecting the coast are the enduring legacy of Sheikh Hasina’s diplomatic strategy. It was only at the tail end of this multi-year process that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stepped into the frame, arriving in Tokyo to sign their names on pre-negotiated dotted lines. Yet, Tarique Rahman and the BNP apparatus have attempted to hijack the entire narrative, parading the final photo-ops as their personal crowning achievements. This is an act of sheer political plagiarism; the BNP government did not write the script, negotiate the terms, or lay a single brick of the strategic alliance. By claiming credit for deep-sea ports, vital trade protections, and defense frameworks that were fully realized under Sheikh Hasina, Tarique Rahman and his new government are living on borrowed glory, coasting entirely on a future that was built by the very leader they sought to replace. #Bangladesh #Diplomacy #FriendshipToAll #MaliceTowardsNone⁩

Famed Bangladeshi Actor Turned Politician Asaduzzaman Noor Turns 80 Today - His Third Birthday Behind Bars, Without Charge. One of #Bangladesh’s most celebrated actors and cultural personalities, Asaduzzaman Noor, turns 80 today. But there is little cause for celebration. This is his third consecutive birthday behind bars. Arrested on 15 September 2024, Noor has now spent 776 days in detention without being formally charged with any crime. Widely regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most popular television drama actors, Noor later entered politics and served as a Member of Parliament and Minister of Cultural Affairs under the Awami League government. Following the political change in August 2024, Noor was arrested in connection with several murder cases arising from the violence surrounding the July–August protests. Although he has managed to secure bail in some cases, his continued detention has been ensured through his repeated re-arrests in additional criminal cases. Noor is among hundreds of former MPs, ministers, political leaders and activists affiliated with the Awami League who have been arrested since August 2024. Like many of his former colleagues, he remains in prolonged pre-trial detention without formal charges being brought against him. For more than two years, Noor has endured difficult detention conditions. Despite his advanced age and multiple health issues, his repeated applications for bail have been unsuccessful in securing his release. As Asaduzzaman Noor turns 80, his continued incarceration raises serious questions about prolonged pre-trial detention, the repeated use of new criminal cases to prevent release, and the protection of fundamental due process rights in Bangladesh. ... @SRjudgeslawyers @amnestysasia @hrw @StateDRL @ESandersFCDO @IBAHRI @UNHumanRights @HRF @Irenekhan @PearsonElaine

⁨A Planned Campaign of Disinformation on Facebook, Followed by Attacks on Minorities in Pirganj: by Jamaat-Shibir and BNP-Linked Groups --- History bears witness, and present-day realities are cited as evidence of what the author describes as a recurring pattern: “BNP-Jamaat rule or influence means systematic persecution, looting, and a reign of terror against the country’s minority communities.” A similar incident has reportedly unfolded in Chak Karim (Telipara) village, under Sadar Union of Pirganj Upazila in Rangpur district. Extremist cadres allegedly affiliated with Jamaat-Shibir launched a violent attack on the Hindu neighbourhood of Chak Karim after raising what the statement describes as fabricated and deliberately orchestrated allegations of religious defamation against an ordinary young villager, Sourav Chandra Mohanta, on Facebook. According to the statement, electricity to the area was deliberately cut off in advance, after which an armed group of approximately 50 to 60 people attacked three Hindu households, vandalising their homes and carrying out extensive looting. The statement argues that this was neither an ordinary nor an isolated incident. It characterises the episode as part of what it calls a longstanding and far-reaching conspiracy by the BNP-Jamaat alliance, alleging that its political agenda is to exploit religion to undermine Bangladesh’s secular ethos and force members of minority communities to leave the country. It further alleges that Jamaat-Shibir and their allies deliberately incite mob violence, engaging in the destruction of innocent people’s lives and property.⁩ #SaveBangladesh #JamaatShibirViolence #BNPJamaat

International Day of Political Prisoners 2026: Hundreds Detained in #Bangladesh Without Charge for More Than Two Years. On the occasion of the International Day of Political Prisoners 2026, #BDWatch calls on the int’l community, #humanrights organisations, and relevant UN mechanisms to draw urgent attention to the plight of political prisoners in Bangladesh and the continuing erosion of fundamental rights and due process protections. Since the political upheaval of August 2024, thousands of political leaders, activists, and supporters affiliated with the #AwamiLeague have been arrested, initially under the Yunus-led Interim Govt and subsequently under the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (#BNP) govt led by PM #TariqueRahman. A substantial number remain behind bars, many having spent more than two years in detention without formal charges being brought against them 134 Former MPs, Ministers and Senior Officials Arrested Since Aug 2024, at least 134 former members of parliament, ministers, and advisers holding ministerial rank have been arrested in connection with their association with the Awami League. Of these, only 13 have reportedly been granted bail, while the overwhelming majority remain in prolonged pre-trial detention. Beyond Politicians: A Pattern of Targeting Dissent The arrests have extended well beyond politicians. Those detained include former civil servants, journalists, academics, judges, lawyers, and other professionals perceived to have affiliations with, or sympathies towards, the Awami League. Mass Criminal Cases and Questionable Prosecutions Many detainees have been implicated in criminal cases arising from the violence surrounding the Jul–Aug 2024 protests. Numerous cases involve extraordinarily large numbers of accused individuals, sometimes hundreds in a single complaint, raising serious questions about the credibility of the allegations and whether individual criminal responsibility has been properly established. Concerns have also been raised about the absence of credible evidence connecting particular defendants to specific offences, politically motivated allegations, and reported corruption and abuse within law enforcement agencies. Denial of Bail and Repeated Arrests A particularly troubling practice involves the repeated use of shown arrests, whereby individuals who secure bail in one criminal case are subsequently recorded as arrested in another case, preventing their release. This effectively perpetuates indefinite detention, even where courts have authorised an individual's release. Deaths in Custody and Allegations of Mistreatment Scores of political detainees have reportedly died in prison custody over the past two years, often in circumstances that warrant urgent and independent scrutiny. Families of deceased detainees have repeatedly alleged custodial mistreatment, torture, inadequate medical treatment, and delays or refusals in providing necessary healthcare. Anti-Terror Law Used Against Peaceful Political Activities The continued use of Bangladesh's amended Anti-Terrorism Act to restrict Awami League activities has created further concerns about the criminalisation of peaceful political expression and association. AL activists and supporters regularly face arrests and prosecutions for participating in demonstrations, chanting political slogans, or expressing support for their party on social media. Dissent Cannot Be Criminalised BDWatch calls upon the Bangladesh Govt to end all arbitrary and politically motivated detentions and ensure the release of individuals held solely for their political beliefs, affiliations, or peaceful activities. Why do the BNP and Jamaat appear so reluctant to challenge Pakistan’s distortion of the history of 1971? Pakistan’s military surrendered on 16 December 1971, but the truth about its atrocities and military failures remains contested. Bangladesh’s Liberation War was not an Indian conspiracy—it was a struggle for freedom won through the courage, sacrifice and blood of millions of Bangladeshis. Our history is not Pakistan’s propaganda. Our freedom is not negotiable. No political alliance or diplomatic convenience can justify forgetting the sacrifices of 1971. Bangladesh belongs to the spirit of its Liberation War- not to the shadow of those who deny it. #Bangladesh #Pakistan #LiberationWar1971

I get messages almost every day about attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistan. I asked the Leader of the House for a statement on what the Government will do to protect them.

No Gas. No Electricity. No Shame. Under Tarique Rahman’s watch, the BNP government has turned Bangladesh into an economic disaster zone. When people cry out over impossible LPG prices and market inflation, the regime's response is simple: deploy the police. Extortion thrives, factories die, and the public suffers while rulers play politics. Your time of hiding behind police shields is running out. Deliver relief or step down! #FuelCrisis #Bangladesh #BNP #StandWithThePeople
