And once more, just to make my position even clearer for those writing articles. I am not angry (as I may sound). I hardly ever am. I am disgusted. And I am mostly concerned for people who might listen to what is being shilled through those channels without proper risk disclosure. To the good people out there: please focus on strengthening Dogecoin Core, on bringing in more engineers to help with the reviews and to work on the proposals. There is much work to do! Core has to be kept safe (and this is so crucial nowadays) and well maintained for all the rest you are building on top of the network to be respected and to work well. And yes, you can and should also support different open source node and wallet implementations, alongside more experimental things to test where Dogecoin can go next. (While some may not agree this is the only way, I personally like experimental things created in the open throughout their development, and not pushed to the community when you are done with them.) Please focus on supporting the ecosystem, which is also made up of small independent contributors, who happen to be those who do not need to create casinos or shift risk onto users to make money. You do not have to be a developer to help. You can write guides. Write posts to warn users against scams and risks. Make art about Dogecoin. If you do any of these things, you will have brought more positive things to Dogecoin than any of these "directors" or organizations have.

I'm not sure who in their right mind would want to take the helm of that. We are not talking about some community-governed foundation whose board simply needs replacing. We are talking about a network of legal entities scattered across different countries, with employees, contractors and commercial relationships, claiming to represent a decentralized cryptocurrency without ever having received a mandate from its community to do so. And what a legacy to inherit, holy cannoli. - The trademarks, man. With what in Italy we used to call a "supercazzola" masked as legal acumen and higher purpose, they claimed they needed to protect the Dogecoin trademarks from abuse and trademark trolls. Instead, they entered into (from what we can read on paper, on the SEC filings) lucrative commercial licensing agreements, and the resulting trademark licensing rights even ended up listed among the collateral for a $5.5 million loan taken out by House of Doge. This is in the SEC filings. The very thing they supposedly wanted to protect on behalf of the community became a commercial bargaining chip. - The promotion of disastrous commercial ventures. They used their channels to enthusiastically promote ventures such as CleanCore's Dogecoin treasury, presenting them as extraordinarily positive developments for Dogecoin. The treasury arrangement subsequently collapsed, agreements were terminated, financial statements were restated, and CleanCore sold basically all its Doge holdings. Yet I have seen NOT A SINGLE EFFORT from the Foundation to explain to the very same audience what went wrong. And some of the people involved in the Foundation also held positions in the companies involved in these arrangements, with financial interests documented in SEC filings. - The Italian football club. Through House of Doge, they associated the Dogecoin name with the acquisition of a substantial stake in @TriestinaCalcio, a historic but unfortunate Italian football club that subsequently faced technical insolvency, restructuring of debt, and the risk of judicial liquidation. Thanks also to the way this was presented in the press, people now believe "Dogecoin owns a football club" and associate Dogecoin itself with the club's financial troubles. This was all over the news in Italy's main news channels. The damage done was huge. - The community accounts. Accounts that built enormous followings through their association with Dogecoin and its open-source developers have been used for commercial promotion. The former dogecoin_devs account has now even been rebranded as Dogecoin Labs, a commercial venture. We still have no clear public explanation of who authorized this, whether control was transferred, and on what terms. These accounts were built on the credibility and work of people who were contributing to an open-source project, not building an audience for private companies. And that's hardly an exhaustive list. Just to mention one, even the financial accounts of the Foundation's UK entities are overdue. Now: I am not a lawyer. And I won't pretend to know whether any of these arrangements might have legal consequences in the various jurisdictions involved. That's for the lawyers and courts and judges to determine. But morally? I have zero hesitation in calling what has happened a grotesque betrayal of community trust, and of the trust of people who worked alongside some of these individuals for years. I genuinely struggle to imagine why any serious, independent person would want to inherit this mess and all the baggage that comes with it. The attraction for someone interested in controlling the remaining assets and commercial relationships is rather easier to understand. And that brings me to the fundamental problem with the idea of electing a new board. Why should the Dogecoin community have to rescue or rehabilitate an organization that was never elected to represent it in the first place? Dogecoin doesn't need to be rescued by a new board of "directors". Almost everybody around crypto is corrupted or tends to become corrupted. Dogecoin needs its independence respected. The Foundation's failure is not Dogecoin's, thankfully.

Dogecoin’s Biggest Builders Get a Wake Up Call Dogecoin (@dogecoin) $DOGE community member Mishaboar is urging businesses to invest in the network’s open-source development. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Dogecoin Core, code review, and good research of technical proposals. Mishaboar also stressed the need for supporting independent developers, alternative node software, and good research. The message follows Dogecoin Labs’ (@DogecoinLabs) launch, which brings several ecosystem products and development teams together.

An update/commentary on the Keystone incident. The absurd part is that the attacker managed to steal both customers' personal data AND the key used to authenticate Keystone devices. How on earth was such a critical key accessible through a compromise originating in a third-party tool used by their website? And as it turns out, their promised 180-day deletion of customer data had not been working reliably, leaving older customer records exposed. There is a more general takeaway, particularly for all those of you who are not tech savvy: once your data is out there, it can be extremely difficult to ever fully scrub it from the internet. Even if a company promises to do so. This can happen because of negligence, bad implementations, or deletion procedures that are not monitored as they should. There are many existing solutions to handle this, and you would imagine multimillion-dollar companies could find a reliable way to use that. But, alas, you would be surprised.

My intervention was among other things AGAINST the takeover of the dogecoin channels by Dogecoin Labs. They took control of community resources (the old dogecoin_devs X account that in the past was used by Dogecoin Core developers was renamed to DogecoinLabs) because the Dogecoin “Foundation” (a group with no mandate to represent the Dogecoin community and which pushed several disasters over the past years) gave them access to the channel. I am against all of this and disgusted by it. Do not try to frame my opinion in support of it.

The thing to point out is even before that: the Dogecoin "Foundation", which is actually a group of people and organizations with no mandate to represent Dogecoin, gave away the Doge "brand" in the first place. This is grotesque.

The maximum additional 'utility' dogecoin could use is a privacy and/or fast payments Layer 1.5. Crypto will never be a full drop in replacement for fiat, nor for the broader financial system. And defi has been largely, a security disaster and shit token casino.

If you are a commercial venture building for the Dogecoin ecosystem and you want to see it grow, including its open-source projects: - Support Dogecoin Core and its development. Help keep it secure and up to date. There is a real need for good, rigorous engineers reviewing code (crucial) and making well-argued, thoroughly researched proposals. People's respect for Dogecoin starts here, IMO. The review part is truly crucial, now more than ever. - Support the ecosystem at large, including alternative node implementations and open-source projects from small independent developers. - Support rigorous, data-backed research into ways to improve Dogecoin, with full transparency. - Of course, create technically sound, transparent commercial products with clearly stated business models and risk disclosures. Care about your users. Big names who supported Doge in the past clearly stated that its open nature, its decentralization, and the fact that nobody could control it were its greatest assets (alongside the dog in the logo).

black october just got worse. a japanese company lost 27,000 servers and it’s not even the scariest part GMO Internet runs a cloud service called Onamae Desktop, mostly used by forex traders running automated trading bots hackers broke in, installed malware across up to 26,739 servers, stole trading credentials and started making unauthorized trades on people’s accounts not one broker. over 70 different securities and forex firms across japan and internationally. people woke up to trades they never made, money moving they never authorized OANDA Japan froze customer withdrawals. GMO refused to pay the ransom, permanently shut down the entire service, and did something nobody expected they asked the japanese government to use brand new active cyber defense powers, literally military-grade authority that just went into effect october 1st, to trace and neutralize the attackers’ infrastructure. the government can now legally hack back the technical details from the attacker’s own site are terrifying. GMO configured their VPS network using Active Directory, something you should never do on shared hosting every server had admin credentials. and the RDP files customers used to connect? drive redirect was enabled by default, meaning the moment you connected to your VPS, your entire local PC was shared with the server hackers didn’t just own the servers. they had a direct path into every customer’s personal computer. they extracted data, installed backdoors. customers were exposed like this for over 7 years 27,000 servers. 70+ brokers. unauthorized trades. personal computers backdoored. a company begging its government to go to cyber war october isn’t slowing down
