WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.
i own a relatively new (2025) samsung tv. i kept getting weirdly targeted ads. i tried reversing the firmware but it was aes encrypted and no keys unless tear it apart and do uart/jtag magic. zero days it is. root shell on new samsung TVs! discovered PRIVACY HORROR. write up?

Not all forests are equal, and now we can map the difference. 🌳 Meet Forest Typology (ForTy): a 10m map of natural, planted, and farmed forests to help identify deforestation and protect the forests that matter most. 🧵

A phone is not a phone and a tv is no longer a tv
turns out it classifies what audio it hears, before reporting back to samsung. sensor preferences, dog-barking and baby-crying event counters, and camera streaming duration are built into telemetry paths.

So little is being done about 38,000 hectares of woodland being destroyed by invasive Rhododendron Ponticum and more from Cherry Laurel (that for some reason are both still legal to sell in the U.K.?!) that BBC noticed our work and came to learn the ropes. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmn9…

from the pqs we've checked, donna mcgettigan (sf) is well ahead, with 23 citizen science questions between 7 jul and 7 sept 2026. pádraig o'sullivan (ff) asked 6 on 1 jul (pqs 341 to 346) on whether research ireland evaluated openlittermap. we haven't counted dáil speeches by party yet, so we won't guess at that.

Vote Donna McGettigan 🥇@sinnfeinireland walking all over the “party of education” who have achieved *nothing* for citizen science with billions in funding for x2 depts of education
from the record: 23 pqs from donna mcgettigan on citizen science or citizen-generated data, 3 on 7 july, 7 on 28 july and 13 on 7 sept. 19 went to the higher ed minister, 2 to climate (pq 126 of 7 july names openlittermap) and 2 to education. main asks: a presidency plan, who leads policy, and how research ireland classifies and funds it.

Getting the poor of different nations fighting is one way to fix the housing crisis
For those moaning about the triple lock. Don’t worry, it will only be the poor kids sent to war.

Imagine going to work every day for the National Council for Curriculum & Assessment and doing absolutely nothing to support research in data collection following the launch of the iPhone
Just in case it wasn't absolutely, 100 per cent, crystal clear... . The @NCCAie is not fit for purpose. In its current form, its work should be subjected to external enquiry and review, and the Education Act amended to abolish it in its current form. #edchatie

OLM patched the #php2shell bug yesterday evening. Would not have been possible if we didn’t upgrade to OLMv5 earlier this year. Thanks to @taylorotwell & co for making it super easy with forge 💪

Introducing terrio: geospatial data I/O in pure Rust! terrio reads, writes, converts and reprojects geospatial rasters, vector data and point clouds, with no C dependencies. No GDAL or PROJ to install, nothing to compile: it builds anywhere Rust does, including WebAssembly, so the same engine runs on the command line, in Python, and in your web browser. What it does - Rasters: GeoTIFF and COG, Zarr and GeoZarr, netCDF, HDF5, PMTiles, MBTiles and more, read in place from the cloud, so only the bytes needed are fetched. - Vectors: GeoPackage, Shapefile, GeoJSON, FlatGeobuf, GeoParquet, OpenStreetMap PBF and vector tiles, with filters, field selection and reprojection. - Point clouds: LAS, LAZ, COPC, EPT, PLY and E57, with PDAL-style filters (ground classification, noise, heights above ground) and gridding into DSMs and DTMs. Files larger than memory are converted in chunks. - GDAL-style processing: translate, warp, mosaic, rasterize, polygonize, terrain analysis, raster calculator, proximity and sieve. - Remote data: http(s), S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure, zip archives and STAC searches as inputs. - Accurate: coordinate transformations agree with GDAL's within a centimetre for all 6,354 EPSG CRSs GDAL transforms, and outputs are tested against GDAL on real-world data. - Fast: in our benchmarks, warping, mosaicking and writing COGs run several times faster than the GDAL utilities. - For AI agents: terrio mcp is an MCP server, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code can run terrio's commands on your data. Get it - Command line (Linux, macOS): curl -LsSf terrio.opengeos.org/install.… | sh - Python: pip install terrio (with rasterio- and xarray-style APIs) - JavaScript/WebAssembly: npm install terrio-js - Rust: cargo add terrio Try it out - Playground in your browser: terrio.opengeos.org/playgrou… - Documentation: terrio.opengeos.org - GitHub: github.com/opengeos/terrio #GIS #Rust #OpenSource #Geospatial #Python #LiDAR #CloudNative

Read #TheDemocracyGap Policy Dossier — a citizen contribution to Ireland's #EUPresidency on our institutional incapacity for engaging #citizens in basic research, data collection, systems building and innovation pathways. Written in the constituency of the EU Commissioner for Democracy @EUCssrMcGrath who has ignored all my phone calls & meeting requests and @MichealMartinTD Ireland's outgoing Taoiseach who is very busy working on the housing crisis. litterweek.org/tdg

Thanks to a custom #clusterize algorithm that we created and open sourced, all OLM global data (or any large set of data points) loads instantly in 1.7kb

Citizen science fixes this but no funding for research and innovation with the defining technology of our generation from our broken systems
Most children (and adults) can identify 100+ logos and nearly 0 native plant species This is not healthy for society Native wildlife roots us in our place and we should treat it with such reverence If we do not root ourselves in the land it is very easy to lose our ourselves

Peak hypocrisy
The rights to free assembly and association are essential for the full enjoyment of human rights by all. This morning at #3C, 🇮🇪 expressed concern about the impact of excessive restrictions and repression, in particular young people’s engagement on social and political issues.
