URGENT WARNING TO TRUCKERS: POSSIBLE ATTACK ON TRUCKS ON THE N3 Via SA Trucker: Truck drivers and transport operators are urged to exercise extreme caution on the N3 near Villiers in the Free State following reports that two trucks were set alight after their drivers were allegedly forcibly stopped. The incident occurred near the Vaaldraai Interchange on Thursday evening, 29 October, resulting in the closure of the southbound carriageway. SA Trucker has also received reports of another vehicle fire further along the N3. However, we could not immediately confirm whether this incident was related to the initial truck fires. The circumstances surrounding the incidents remain unclear, and the reports of a possible deliberate attack have not yet been independently verified. Transport operators are urged to contact local authorities and obtain verified safety updates before dispatching trucks onto the affected section of the N3 Drivers already in the area should remain alert, avoid approaching potentially dangerous scenes and follow instructions from law enforcement officials.

COMMENT: A SIGNIFICANT BREAKTHROUGH IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE ILLICIT CIGARETTE TRADE! The seizure of illicit cigarettes worth approximately R41 million in Durban is a major breakthrough and demonstrates the importance of intelligence-driven policing and cooperation between law enforcement agencies. But this must be about more than seizing stock. The real target must be the kingpins, financiers, distributors and entire criminal networks behind this illegal trade. Those responsible must be identified, arrested and brought before the courts. The illicit cigarette trade costs South Africa billions of rand in lost tax revenue every year. It undermines legitimate businesses, fuels organised crime and deprives the state of revenue desperately needed for service delivery. Credit must go to Crime Intelligence, the Durban Metro Police Tactical Support Unit, the Hawks and SARS Customs and Excise for this operation. Now we need to see arrests, successful prosecutions and the dismantling of the syndicate behind this consignment. Seize the cigarettes. Follow the money. Arrest the kingpins. Shut down the criminal networks. @TaxJustice_SA

NO MORE EXCUSES: WESTERN CAPE GOVERNMENT AND CITY OF CAPE TOWN CRACK DOWN ON TAXI VIOLENCE @WesternCapeGov @CityofCT @alanwinde @geordinhl @SAPoliceService @Prof_Cachalia The Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town have vowed to intensify action against ongoing taxi-related violence that has claimed lives, threatened communities and disrupted public transport. Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku and the City’s MMC for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, met with SANTACO Western Cape and CODETA on Thursday, 29 October 2026, to discuss urgent interventions. CATA did not attend, citing prior commitments outside the province. Key interventions include: 🔴 Urgent talks: A further meeting involving CATA and CODETA leadership is being arranged for Monday, 2 November, to resolve outstanding disputes. 🔴 Legal action: The provincial government is pursuing regulatory inquiries into alleged violations by taxi associations and an urgent court application to clarify operating rights. 🔴 Stronger enforcement: The City will maintain a visible law enforcement presence in affected areas and support provincial legal action. 🔴 Commuter protection: Authorities are exploring additional transport services if taxi operations are disrupted. Premier Alan Winde condemned the bloodshed, calling for coordinated law enforcement action to track down and arrest those responsible. He stressed that disputes over routes and operating rights cannot justify violence. Authorities also raised concerns about the impact on schools, teachers and learners, particularly during the National Senior Certificate examinations. Contingency plans are in place to help protect candidates and staff. The government warned that continued discussions cannot replace decisive action, insisting that those responsible for unlawful conduct must face consequences. The message is clear: taxi violence must end, commuters must be protected, and nobody is above the law.

THIRD ACCUSED JOINS CASE OF WOMAN WHO ALLEGEDLY STAGED HER OWN KIDNAPPING @NPA_Prosecutes A third accused, Nomasonto Mokwane (43), has been added to the case against Ntombifuthi Mavis Rumo (37) and Bonginkosi Mndebele (28), who are appearing before the Kwa-Thema Magistrates’ Court in connection with the alleged staging of Rumo’s kidnapping. All three accused are facing a charge of defeating the administration of justice. Mndebele faces an additional charge of assault for allegedly assaulting police officers during his arrest. It is alleged that on 07 October 2026, the three accused met and discussed staging Rumo’s kidnapping because they were experiencing financial difficulties. They allegedly contacted Rumo’s family and demanded money for her release. When the family was unable to pay the money demanded, Rumo was allegedly released on 12 October 2026 and left on Vlakfontein Road, where her family was asked to collect her. Following a police investigation into the reported kidnapping, Rumo was arrested on 20 October 2026 after her husband brought her to the police. Following her arrest, she allegedly pointed out Mndebele to the police. During Mndebele’s arrest, he allegedly assaulted police officers who were effecting the arrest and attempted to flee. He was subsequently shot by police. Mokwane was arrested on 27 October 2026 at a hospital where she was receiving medical treatment. The matter was postponed to 06 November 2026 for a bail application. The State intends to oppose their release on bail. Issued by: Lumka Mahanjana NPA

The conviction stems from an incident reported on 30 November 2023, in which a complainant alleged that she paid More R800 in cash to expedite the issuing of a Letter of Authority for the estate of the deceased. The matter was assigned to the #Hawks’ Johannesburg Serious Corruption Investigation. Following a meticulous investigation, More was arrested on 26 February 2025. The Acting Gauteng Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Brigadier Paulina Sekgobela, has commended the investigating officer for his diligent and relentless work in securing this conviction. This sentence serves as a stern warning to public officials that corruption within state institutions will not be tolerated and that perpetrators will face the full might of the law.

NSPCA LAYS ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES AGAINST SAPS OFFICIALS OVER POLICE DOG The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) has laid criminal charges of animal cruelty against South African Police Service (SAPS) officials following the death of police dog Sky. Ian Cameron, chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, welcomed confirmation that the charges had been laid at Kameeldrift SAPS and added to an existing case. Cameron had initially lodged a complaint with the NSPCA over the circumstances surrounding Sky’s catastrophic injuries and subsequent death. He described the latest development as an important step towards accountability, while stressing that the laying of charges does not establish guilt and that the allegations must be properly investigated. “The evidence must now be properly investigated and tested through a fair process,” Cameron said. He thanked the NSPCA for following through on its commitment to pursue the matter, adding that the investigation would be closely monitored. “Sky will not be forgotten,” Cameron said.

FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED WITH THREE FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION IN GREYTOWN Four suspects who have been actively involved in the ongoing marches against illegal foreigners were arrested after they were found in possession of three firearms and ammunition in Muden in the early hours of Thursday, 29 October 2026. National Crime Intelligence officers deployed in KwaZulu-Natal gathered intelligence that four people actively involved in the marches were allegedly involved in criminal activities, including cash-in-transit robberies, and were in possession of firearms. The intelligence was operationalised, and a multidisciplinary operation involving police officers who are members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team was conducted. Intelligence led police to a residence in Muden, where the four suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle, two handguns and 159 rounds of ammunition. They were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The firearms will be taken for ballistic testing to establish whether they were used in the commission of crimes in and around KwaZulu-Natal or elsewhere in the country. Three more arrested for passport photo-swapping fraud as Home Affairs shuts down corruption loopholes: The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, welcomes the arrest of two former Home Affairs officials and a member of the public in connection with passport photo-swapping fraud committed in 2023 at the Bothaville Home Affairs office in the Free State. The arrests follow an investigation by the Department's Counter Corruption Unit and the Hawks into the fraudulent processing of ten passport applications. The three suspects appeared before the Bothaville Magistrate's Court on 27 October 2026, with the matter postponed to 20 January 2027. The arrests bring the total number of individuals arrested in connection with Home Affairs corruption since July 2024 to 44, alongside the dismissal of 98 officials. The case involved the exploitation of weaknesses in outdated systems to fraudulently obtain South African passports through photo swapping. While those implicated are now facing the full might of the law, the Department has since, through biometric verification, closed certain loopholes that were used to commit passport fraud in the past. This is part of its broader digital transformation reform programme, which is systematically designing corruption out of Home Affairs. Minister Schreiber said: "These arrests send a clear message that those who exploited weaknesses in Home Affairs' systems will be held accountable. Through our digital transformation reform programme, we have since closed key loopholes to prevent such fraud from recurring, while ensuring that those responsible for corruption do not escape the full might of the law. Our approach is twofold: pursuing corruption without fear or favour, while using technology to eliminate opportunities for corruption in the first place. This is how we are building a fundamentally different Home Affairs that does not merely respond to corruption, but systematically eliminates the opportunities for it to occur." @Leon_Schreib
