This is quite informatively wrong. First, the main claim is just false. No one *has to decide* if they 'love' or 'hate' Hilary Cass. Why think that one does? Why do we have to *hate* or *love* particular people involved in this policy argument, rather than disagree or agree with them? But the assumption made by the poster is obviously operating. *He* likes to denounce people as hateful bigots. There seems to be quite of lot of hating going - hating and demands for hate - on but we don't have to adopt those standards.
(Boringly, I agree with Cass about closing the Tavistock, disagree with her about the puberty blockers trial, and agree with her about Sam Hall. There you go)

You hateful bigots really have to decided if you love or hate Cass...

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

Alastair Campbell thinks a made-up word can save us all. I reviewed his new book on "persevilience" for @Unherd

In preparation for a discussion with the lab on AI use tomorrow morning, I thought I would come prepared and write down my thoughts in a blog post: How I use AI in my work

It's basically a test of whether you are one of us.
Today I learned about the All Souls examination, which is reputed to be the hardest exam in the world.
To even be considered, you need to have a degree from, or be a current graduate student of Oxford.
Hundreds of people sit and only two people pass every year.
Attached is last year's general exam.
Before I saw it, I wondered, how hard could it be.
Well, it turns out…it's "Defend ghosting.", "Does a pope matter?", and "Is body language a language?" hard:
When I went to the LSE in the late 70s ( from a Coventry Comp) nobody, ever, asked me what school I went to. It wasn't a thing. Nobody cared.

12) If the Green party adopts this motion, the vast majority of British Jews (even many who are vocal critics of the Israeli government, even a section of those 10% or so of British Jews who consider themselves explicitly anti-Zionist) will see the Greens as an antisemitic party.
This one seems to have worn well.
"...to ensure a collective and unified response." Next step will be the issuing of the little red book. First self-criticism event Friday morning. Struggle sessions on Sunday afternoon.
At Caius College, Cambridge, attendance of these 1.5 hour-long inclusivity training sessions is mandatory for all undergrads.
The sessions will be delivered by Stop Hate UK, who erroneously state that "gender identity" is a protected characteristic and that "Islamophobia is a crime." One would hope these are honest mistakes and they will be correcting them @stophateuk
It will be interesting to hear what they have to say about the hate myself and others experienced at Cambridge for having the temerity to join a society for women that excludes men. Their website talks a lot about The Law and they seem to be very much in favour of the crime of Hate as a category: the word itself is menacingly capitalised throughout their material with the ominous implication that the violence or harassment ordinarily necessary for hatred to constitute a Hate Crime is somehow superfluous, and that simply Hating silently in your head should be sufficient.
I wonder if they like the law so much when it comes to the protected characteristic of belief in the binary nature of sex and the Supreme Court judgment clarifying that sex in law means biological sex. We shall soon find out.
In any case, by bringing them in and mandating attendance, Caius College is at best tacitly endorsing this ideological pressuring of students into being firmly on the woke side of a culture war they are determined not to wade out of, even given recent events. Training will of course include American rubbish about unconscious bias, microaggressions and how to be an Upstander against heteronormative hypermasculinity.
No doubt some administrator has looked over this charity and their session descriptions and decided there's nothing at all controversial here, nothing political, just kindness.
What seemed to be obvious rules of civility in shared spaces seem now to be contested by a significant fraction of the population. I guess the only answer is regulation. Edwardian buses informed their users that spitting was not permitted.
On a packed train with my family. Couple across the aisle both alternatively playing social media videos on speakers at full volume. Managed not to say anything until the woman started playing a documentary about serial killers. I'm here with my daughter.
I politely said "please could you turn it down it's not appropriate." To which she replied "I'm sure she's heard worse at school." I said that really wasn't her call to make and in general could she please reduce the volume.
Her response "Its a public train for heavens sake".
For me that's exactly why it is anti social (and what headphones were invented for). I'm wondering which one of us is out of kilter on this?
Ps I should note she did thankfully reduce the volume and we all left it there.
The myth of the middle-ground is powerful narc for the hard of thinking.
What is your proposed compromise solution here?
Alluding to the need for compromise on both sides rings a little hollow if you are not, at the same time, able to propose what that compromise might look like.
With some issues, there is simply no room for compromise. A space is either single-sex or it is not single-sex. I struggle to see the room for compromise there. However, if you see some space that I don’t see, I am more than happy to listen to you sharing what that compromise would look like in practice.

Wow. Such pride in sexism. I think I’ll dig out some old episodes of On The Buses for a more enlightened sexual politics.
Watched Wajda's Promised Land. It's an amazing film. Exhausting to watch. But an astonishing portrait of naked capitalism & what it does to all sections of society.
Assuming this is an even roughly accurate account of her views she sounds bonkers.
