I will continue to mostly-"deactivate" - ie, cancel and erase - this account, but to reactivate it once a month for a day or two for work-related reasons,
If you happen to find this account on one of its active days, you should leave here, too.
There is no 'yeah, but-'
My wife and I lived next door to Richard in Los Feliz for years. He was polite, quiet, and lived simply. Always reading a newspaper. RIP
Oh for goodness sake.
This is literally the correct, by-the-numbers call.
you kick the FG (i assume it was 4th and long, im not gonna check) which you need anyway, and hope for onside recovery.
30 seconds is a LONG TIME.
is this real or just a too-perfect "no, not like that" meme set-up?
BREAKING: President Trump reveals his new anti-fraud program set up to reward people who expose fraud with a 1% commission on the money uncovered.
"If you turn somebody in and you, let's say report and you find $1 billion, we are giving a commission to that person of 1%."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
DOJ's published guidance caps individual whistleblower rewards at up to $30,000 per tip, not an uncapped 1% of fraud uncovered, with a total program fund of $25 million. A $1 billion fraud tip would not yield a $10 million payout under the official program rules. newsweek.com/trump-vance-of… foxnews.com/politics/trump…
Its funny that many on this app won't remember Costas Coast To Coast, his interview show.
He interviewed Bob Seger, and they talked mostly about "Still the Same," Seger's song about a degenerate gambler father.
Bob Costas was 18 when his father dropped dead at JFK airport. At the wake, a man handed him a thick envelope with $6,000 in $100 bills. It was everything his father left behind, and a bookie would never have paid it to a dead man.
In the video below, he tells the story himself.
His father, John, was a big-time gambler. Not casinos, not racetracks. Ball games. Bob says the mortgage was literally riding on his bets.
When the games went the wrong way, he threw things, cursed and yelled. Bob’s mom and sister would leave. Bob stayed, because watching the games with his dad was the only way to be close to him.
Friday, May 15, 1970. A cop knocks on the door. Before he says a word, Bob’s mother asks, “My husband’s dead, isn’t he?” John Costas had a heart attack walking through JFK. He was 42.
At the wake, one of his gambling buddies walked in with the envelope. “Your father was up when he died. Give this to your mother.” A bookie never pays a dead man, so the friend went to the bookie himself and said John sent him to collect.
Decades later, Bob Costas refused to read sports betting ads on air. Today the bookie lives in everyone’s phone. Is that progress?
Grok, do a tweet describing hell, make no mistakes
Was recently at a bar where drinks were dynamically priced,
i.e. the more people bought a particular drink, the more expensive it became (price would then decayed over time towards a floor).
Fascinating to watch a few market mechanisms play out in a bar:
People ventured outside their usual orders in search of cheaper alternatives, often discovering new favorites in the process.
Others treated rising prices as signals of quality, happily paying premiums to try expensive drinks they’d never had before.
More experienced drinkers behaved like value investors, picking up underpriced drinks they already knew were good while everyone else chased the popular ones.
Price discovery, information leakage, herding, and utility trades all unfolded over rounds of drinks.
More bars should try this.
That's the 1991 Washington team, a low-key candidate as the baddest football team that ever walked the earth.
4 all americans including Steve Emtman and Mario Bailey. TOYED with Michigan in that Rose Bowl 34-14, where Bailey threw an FU-Heisman pose at Desmond Howard.

Fun family history moment: in the early 00's, my father owned and operated the Yule Marble Quarry in Marble, CO. Best white marble in the world, few cracks, beautiful gold veins. This is the quarry that provided the stone for the Lincoln Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Speaking of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, there is a major crack going right across the middle of the stone there right now, clear through the entire thing. For several years, Dad worked on trying to provide a replacement stone. The stone was cut. It was to be donated, for free, to Arlington. The carvers were lined up, again for free. It would have been identical in form, but with no crack. After several years of meetings and calls, nothing was done. The stone still sits by the creek in Marble.
And that's why I know that painting a pillar is truly impressive for Washington, DC.

AI is incredible. Bought this cheap Bluetooth receipt printer, pointed Claude at it and got it to print out every morning an email I get to read into my day. Unbelievable.

not sure I've ever heard Woodward (or any of the various Post figures involved) describe "Jimmy's World" this way before newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…
the entire united state military is literally turning itself inside out, burning its skin of a Cold War/desert war force of the last 50 years into a sky-blotting, $1.5T robot-drone swarm because of Facebook snuff reels from Donbos, but ukraine has given us "nothing"
