Looks like this will be another #txwater discussion in the upcoming #txlege session. When you have private entities owning or managing infrastructure water or other, they are doing so to make a profit. They are also obliged to reinvest in their infrastructure which many times has been neglected for decades and those costs are spread out across their portfolio. Feel how you want to but in my view many systems have clearly undervalued and underinvested in their water infrastructure for decades, part of that is been due to a lack of state and federal funds and part has been a reluctance or lack of political will to do the right thing which should have included increasing rates, proper asset management etc. I am certain that the @TX_WIN Texas Water Capital Needs survey presently underway will provide some valuable insights for policymakers.

Congratulations to the five Texas entities receiving FY2026 pipeline safety grants from @PHMSA_DOT including @DamageTexas @txrrc @TDEM @PermianBasinRPC & West Central Texas COG!
Texas ranked second nationally in total funding awarded and these investments support essential work to prevent excavation damage, strengthen safety oversight, prepare emergency responders, and protect communities and critical infrastructure.
Damage prevention requires coordination among utilities, excavators, regulators, emergency responders, and the public. Contacting @texas811 before digging is a critical first step. Strong partnerships, education, and sustained investment help turn that first step into safer projects and more reliable infrastructure.

NEW TEXAS DROUGHT MONITOR: The news isn't great. Even though some folks got rain last week, we're still in rough shape, with nearly all of Texas in drought. I do not expect beneficial rain outside the western quarter of Texas for about a week. Last week's rains temporarily reduced overall wildfire risk and may have greened the grass, but without more rain, those improvements will wane. How's it in your part of the state? ~David
ALT Texas drought severity map (valid Oct 6, 2026) showing 82% of the state in drought, with widespread D2–D3 conditions across north and central Texas and a color legend from D0 (abnormally dry) to D4 (exceptional drought).
