The owners of Lucky Buns and Chop Shop/Nice & Easy are opening Marlon's Steakhouse in the Kimpton George Hotel (15 E St NW) space that was Bistro Bis for decades. Sounds like it should be open soon.

People who want DC taxpayers to pay for the retractable roof will pretend it pays for itself. I'm skeptical. The DC effective tax rate is 6-15% so $300M needs to generate something like $2-$6 BILLION in *additional* DC economic activity (over the lifetime) to pay for itself.
A well-attended hearing is underway on using $300M in public money to put a roof on Audi Field. @ChmnMendelson proposed it, and @MayorBowser has been against because she feels it may cannibalize D.C.'s existing venues. That's part of what this hearing is supposed to be about.

The Washington National Opera owned the Woodies building in downtown DC for a moment in the late 1990s. The plan was to move there from the Kennedy Center but it didn't work out. washingtonpost.com/archive/l…
If I were planning the city today, I'd move RFK and Capital One to the 230-acre stretch of crumbling federal buildings in SW to create an entertainment district. And to go full Trump with it I'd move the Kennedy Center to Gallery Place to make a true theater district.

Earlier a gas line was ruptured during construction at Hotel Harrington. Due to the scope of the rupture, we had to shut off power to the site, which included the surrounding blocks. The gas to the building has now been shut off and Pepco is working to restore power.

EMPLOYEE OF POPULAR DC RESTAURANT ROBBED AND PUNCHED IN THE FACE DURING TEEN ROBBERY ON 14TH ST NW🚨 According to a DC police report, a worker at the La Grande Boucherie was standing outside of the restaurant on 14th Street NW last night at around 9:50pm when a group of juveniles approached him and asked for a valet parking ticket. One of the suspects then put their hands in the victim’s pocket and felt cash. As the other three suspects approached, two of them grabbed the man’s arms, while another punched him in the face with a closed fist. The suspects then obtained roughly $260 in cash. As one of the suspects was running away, they dropped their iPhone. The victim was able to pick it up and bring it inside, handing it over to a coworker. Once realizing the phone had been dropped, the juvenile suspect returned to the restaurant on THREE separate occasions— demanding his phone back. All four suspects remain on the loose, and MPD continue to investigate the robbery just a few blocks from the White House. #DCCrime – at Washington, DC
A bit late on this, but DC Police investigated a robbery committed by several juveniles outside of the La Grande Boucherie restaurant at 14th Street/G Street NW earlier tonight 🚨 The French restaurant sits just a few blocks away from the White House and is known as a fine dining spot in downtown Washington DC. The juvenile suspects then fled towards G Street NW. MPD sent out the following alert: “Units are investigating a robbery in the 600 block of 14th Street, NW. Lookout for a group of 4 black juvenile males, one suspect wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a red backpack. The group was last seen in the 1300 block of G Street, NW.” DC Forensics were requested to the scene for potential evidence collection, while DC Police continue to investigate the robbery… #DCCrime

One of the saddest facts about the East Potomac situation is that it was being renovated - Trump’s problem is that it wasn’t being renovated by himself. The National Links Trust was raising private contributions, making much needed repairs, and had a world class golf architect lined up to do the upgrades for free. Those plans preserved the historic character, maintained affordability, and protected public access to the rest of the park. Would trees have come down? Yes. Would land be moved? Yes Would there be the uproar there is now? Absolutely not. If Trump had really cared about the people this impacted he would have worked with the NLT to expedite their plan. But he didn’t. And he doesn’t. This is not about giving the people a world class public course. It’s about giving himself a 17th.

Utility bills have been a major topic this election. The District has a unique lever to help lower costs—cut our way too high subsidies for rooftop solar. They are pushing costs from higher income consumers to working class Washingtonians. Read @GregJaczkoDC capitalcommonsense.com/p/dis…

Bummer. Bring back Ten Penh.
Man - 1001 Pennsylvania Ave NW is a cursed space for out of towners. Tadich Grill lasted a little more than two years, closing in 2018, and now Cafe Fiorello is closing after one and a half years. Hope it takes less than seven years to find a suitable tenant for the nice space.
