Day 3 of 45 FBI director J. Edgar Hoover: “The Black Panther Party, without question, represents the greatest threat to internal security of the country.” Mumia (from Rolling Stone interview): “When I hear about due process, my mind automatically goes not to me and my case but to Fred Hampton, the former chairman of the Chicago chapter of the Black Panther Party, who was killed in his bed by the government for being a Black Panther.… I was one of four Panthers from Philadelphia who traveled to Chicago immediately after hearing of his assassination and we stood in that house within hours of the state’s execution of Fred Hampton.”

Our next Red Roundtable in New York City is on October 29 at 6pm. Socialist historian and activist Michael Sturza, author of The London Revolution 1640-1643: Class Struggles in 17th Century England, will discuss the bourgeois revolutions against feudalism. The English events, carried out by many thousands of ordinary people, are the original source for democratic ideas eventually codified in the U.S. Bill of Rights. The historical lessons drawn will shed light on the relevance of democratic rights to revolutionary struggles today. Email [email protected] to reserve a seat and for directions.

New Gimme a Break! Edward & Lital are joined by @ZumoffA to save Eugene Debs from his so-called disciples in DSA. We discuss why Debs is rolling in his grave at antics of “socialists” claiming his name while doing dirty work for Dems. Listen here: buzzsprout.com/2619002/episo…

I will be discussing the seminal Passaic strike and the lessons that Marxists today should draw from it at a talk at the @PRL_library in NYC on 24 September. I urge everybody interested in these vital questions to attend. 5/5

Yet the article's conclusion seems to be Communists were wrong to provide leadership to the wool workers at all and should have avoided work in the labor movement. Which is the same view as the pro-capitalist AFL leadership--and a strange and defeatist position for #Marxists. 4/5

There were political problems in the CP's strategy, especially trying to get the reactionary AFL leadership to take over of the strike. These are hard to sumarize in a series of tweets, but I discuss them in my @RutgersUPress book about the strike: rutgersuniversitypress.org/t… 3/5

It is true that the 15,000 strikers outnumbered the ~7000 Communists at the time. However, the CP did build extensive #solidarity with the strikers, including articles in the Daily Worker, rallies, and a film. lawcha.org/2022/01/21/zumoff… 2/5

This long article has a passing reference to the 1926 #Passaic textile strike, indicating that the #Communist Party was too small to lead the strike, and "a significantly larger party could have built extensive solidarity and turned defeat into success." 1/5

We are proud to announce the recent publication of this Prometheus Research Library bulletin, which contains a selection of documents by Jim Robertson, a founding leader of the Spartacist League/U.S. and the International Communist League. It is well known that the ICL has critically reviewed and repudiated many of its past positions. This in itself is a tribute to Jim Robertson. He forged a party that proved capable of coming back from collapse, stronger and with the revolutionary appetite and program to intervene in urgent struggles today. Lessons drawn from Jim’s lifetime of party building have enduring value for us today. To understand why the ICL has returned to the Comintern’s positions on the national question, permanent revolution and electoral tactics, and has corrected our previous approach to age of consent laws, we encourage readers to study the last three issues of Spartacist (English edition Nos. 68, 69, 70) and Women & Revolution No. 47 alongside this bulletin (see our Linktree in bio). August 8, 1978, 38 years ago today, Philly cops stormed the Powelton Village home of the MOVE organization. The MOVE 9 were framed on bogus conspiracy and murder charges stemming from the killing of an officer who died in the cops’ own crossfire during the murderous police assault on their home. Despite evidence of their innocence, the MOVE 9 were sentenced to 30 to 100 years behind bars. Imprisoned MOVE members were also among the first recipients of the Partisan Defense Committee’s class-war prisoner stipend program.

Remember the MOVE Massacre! #OTD, May 13, 1985: Today is the 40th anniversary of the police/FBI bombing of black Philadelphia—the 1985 MOVE massacre. Philly police with cooperation of the PA State Police and FBI carried out conscious racist murder. Capping a 12-hour siege, cops dropped a satchel with C-4 explosives onto the MOVE organization’s home. The explosion and ensuing firestorm killed eleven black people, including five children. Ramona Africa was imprisoned for seven years for being the sole adult survivor. An entire city block destroyed; hundreds left homeless. Black Democratic mayor Wilson Goode and the Reagan White House gave the orders. Bombing of MOVE was message to anybody seen to stand up against the capitalist rulers’ depredations—not least black people. Workers revolution will avenge the MOVE martyrs. For black liberation through socialist revolution!

Delighted that @PRL_library is now on X! Their collections and archives were crucial to research for my two books. I urge everyone to follow and reach out to PRL if researching history of Marxism, Communism and Trotskyism.
February is #BlackHistoryMonth. Marxists understand that struggle of entire working class for emancipation from capitalism is impossible without fighting against racial segregation and special oppression of black people and for their integration into society on an equal basis.
