Trump & the Republicans took a well-deserved hit in the midterms. Many in the Philippine left are euphoric that @DemSocialists newly-electeds will advance PH liberation struggle. No! Because DSA electeds are tangled w/ Democrat Party of U.S. imperialism iclfi.org/pubs/wv/2026-midte…

Many in the PH left cheer Lula's victory in Brazil. But with his conciliationism toward the imperialists and national capitalists, Lula will inevitably attack the workers and oppressed, leading to broad demoralization and the further rise of the far right.

Gracias! Salamat sa suporta!
I would like to look at my advocacy as broadly belonging to the democratic left, as i identified myself with the social democratic (Socdem) movement since my college days in MSU-Marawi.
i have a practical commitment to advancing workers’ rights through democracy, strong unions and civil society, and social justice.
I have studied Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, German, British, Australian, New Zealand, Singaporean, Indonesian, Malaysian, Japanese, Brazilian and American trade union movements to learn from their experiences and advance Filipino workers’ interests and aspirations. These movements represent diverse political and economic traditions.
i have an open mind, my approach is to learn broadly and judge ideas by how they improve workers’ lives. Studying different traditions may influence our thinking but does not mean subscribing to every ideology behind them.

Marilyn Vogt-Downey, translator and editor of Notebooks for the Grandchildren—Recollections of a Supporter of the Marxist Opposition to Stalin Who Survived the Terror (@histmat), will speak about Mikhail Baitalsky’s memoir, followed by discussion.
Baitalsky was a Ukrainian who came of age fighting for the 1917 proletarian socialist revolution in Russia. Baitalsky recounts the Revolution’s hopes, its tragic unraveling under Stalin, and the #Trotskyist Left Opposition’s fight against the political counterrevolution. Baitalsky survived to tell the story of what happened.

Many in the Philippine left cheered for Mamdani when he ran and won as NYC mayor. Gov. Kathy Hochul exposes the deal made with Mamdani that her endorsement was contingent to keeping NYC police commissioner Jessica Tisch. Want socialism? Fight Mamdani: iclfi.org/pubs/wv/1189/mamda…
Gov. Kathy Hochul reveals the deal made with NYC Mayor Mamdani prior to taking office, privately meeting with him to let the then mayor-elect know that her endorsement was contingent on keeping Jessica Tisch as police commissioner:
HOCHUL: “It was important to me before I supported him. He knew that”
POLITICO: “That was something you talked about privately with him…”
HOCHUL: “Before the endorsement… It’s important that she stays, and before I would support, it was important to have a commitment or understanding that this is very important”
POLITICO: “But now there’s a questions of how long that commitment lasts though”
HOCHUL: “It’s going to work”
POLITICO: “It will? Like months, years? What do you think?”
HOCHUL: “As long as the commissioner wants”

While much of the left cheers Lula's victory, we warn that this can only be disarming: the parliament and senate are firmly in control of the right wing and there is a lot of discontent at Lula's conciliation of the ruling class & imperialism.

The Filipino and Chinese workers and peasants have the same interests in defending themselves against U.S. subjugation. To liberate the Philippines and to defend China requires an anti-imperialist alliance of the toiling masses in both countries.
