🧵 2/3: At a time when education systems are underfunded and under strain from climate shocks, population growth, fragility and economic uncertainty, the case for investing in education has never been stronger.

Ever wondered how many types of audit opinions the AGSA issues?
The AGSA issues five types of audit opinions:
Unqualified with no findings (clean audit)
Unqualified with findings
Qualified audit opinion
Adverse audit opinion
Disclaimer of audit opinion
From a clean audit to a disclaimer, every audit outcome tells a story of how a public institution has managed its finances, reports on its performance and complied with the applicable legislation and regulations. Listen on air as we unpack what each audit opinions means. @SABCEducation

Statement on Xenophobia in South Africa
“South Africa belongs to all who live in it” — preamble to the South African Constitution
The Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) acknowledges the anger felt by many economically marginalised citizens and join others in raising concerns that real grievances have been weaponised by opportunistic forces, deflecting attention away from demands for state and private sector leadership to tackle effective state delivery and structural economic transformation. The state is not effectively providing the services, as well as the jobs and security that so many in South Africa urgently need. This, however, does not justify any form of violence, xenophobia and Afrophobia.
PARI thus joins those condemning the violence and hate speech directed at foreign nationals in South Africa. We call for a halt to all vigilante attacks, and the protection of all persons within our borders regardless of nationality or legal status. We call for unequivocal condemnation from state leaders of the anti-migrant rhetoric, intimidation, displacement and killings that have targeted African migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
Therefore, PARI stands in solidarity with all Africans in the country and calls for a state that is willing and able to implement a democracy that actually does deliver the promised better life for all.

Social accountability isn't a one-off complaint. It's a cycle — identify, gather evidence, engage, demand response, follow up, learn.
That cycle is how communities turn education problems into system change.
We're unpacking it live right now with @globaleducation 👇 us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regi…

In Chiredzi South, the collapse of the Chilonga Bridge has turned a six-hour school journey into a four-day trip during the rainy season. Rural learners and teachers like Megi Chetemu are paying the price. Kuyenda Collective is calling for investment in rural infrastructure, such as education infrastructure.

Zimbabwe’s 15% digital services tax may look fiscally sensible. But as education moves online, it risks widening the gap between urban and rural learners.
If we tax digital tools, we must also fund digital access. Otherwise, we are taxing opportunity.

Such a good human and quiet champion for democracy & meaningful reform processes to address governance inadequacies in African states. Sincere condolences from @PSAM_AFRICA. Steven Gruzd will not be forgotten & we will continue to support the reforms he had advocated for.
