INC 2026 | Working Session VII: Emerging Technologies and Rethinking Strategic Theory 🎙️ Dr. Naeem Salik | Executive Director, Strategic Vision Institute (SVI) 🇵🇰, shared his insights on the impact of emerging technologies on strategic thinking, examining how technological advancements are reshaping deterrence, security dynamics, and established strategic frameworks. “The traditional arms control and disarmament architecture is in disarray, with nuclear arsenals expanding quantitatively and qualitatively and the expiration of New START adding to the challenges. Modern warfare increasingly features the use of emerging technologies and non-contact operations, as seen in the last two years especially in South Asia in May 2025 and the US-Israeli strikes against Iran. Automation bias, over reliance on AI and quantum computing, and the absence of a legally binding regime for autonomous weapons raise serious concerns about catastrophic outcomes of such technologies.” Watch it Live. 📍 INC 2026 | Working Session VII: Emerging Technologies and Rethinking Strategic Theory 🎙️ Dr. Petr Topychkanov | Associate Professor, School of World Politics, Lomonosov Moscow State University , Russia, shared his analysis of how emerging technologies are influencing strategic thought, evolving security challenges, and the changing dynamics of international relations. “The growing use of artificial intelligence in military systems is changing military operations through faster data processing, greater integration of military systems, and advances in automation and robotics. These developments also raise questions about the vulnerability of nuclear forces. Another important issue is the impact of AI on strategic command and decision-making. The principle of keeping a human-in-the-loop remains central to nuclear command and control. But what does this principle actually mean when AI systems increasingly shape the information available to political and military leaders, their assessment of threats, and the options they consider?” Watch it Live. Every Second Factory Should Be Able To Build Drones 🇮🇳 That is the capacity former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane believes India should have: 40,000 drones every month during wartime. And the number is not random, It is drawn straight from what the 2025 war already showed. India used Harop and Warmate loitering munitions to strike Pakistani air defence radars and military sites. Pakistan launched hundreds of drones, including Bayraktar TB2 type systems, from Leh to Sir Creek. Over 790 drone incursions were recorded along the western border that year, and nearly all were shot down, but the sheer volume is the warning sign here, not the intercept rate. Naravane's comparison is to WWII style industrial mobilization, where civilian factories converted to war production almost overnight. That is the scale he is calling for, not a few specialised drone manufacturers, but a dual use industrial base wide enough to convert ordinary factories on short notice. Right now, that capacity does not exist anywhere close to 40,000 a month.

Here's a statistic that should make every air force sit up and take notice. During recent operations over the Persian Gulf and the Levant, French Rafales fired around 100 MICA AAMs against Iranian one-way attack drones. That's close to half of the French Air & Space Force's entire MICA stockpile! Yes, half! It is a stark reminder that in a real war, you don't just fight the enemy. You fight your own magazine depth. Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The number of MICA missiles in service is classified The 🇫🇷 AF launched the refurbishment of 300 MICA and ordered 567 MICA NG, making a stock of only 200 missiles highly implausible. Some experts estimate the inventory at around 1200 MICA, excluding the new MICA NG orders defense.gouv.fr/dga/actualites…

The logo of a Soviet research institute under the MoD features a punch card as a key design element. My late father worked at a different (civilian) institute where he frequently dealt with these cards, so our home was filled with them when I was a kid.

Continuing a diplomatic tradition, Bangladesh has sent Himsagar and Amrapali mangoes to the Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Tripura. Across India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, mangoes have long carried meanings beyond taste. They move through the region as symbols of hospitality, prestige, diplomacy, and the complicated emotions of a shared civilisation split by borders. Interesting article from @profLind and Press (of the famous Lieber & Press) on modifying the US nuclear extended deterrence guarantees. Some odd assertions on their way towards encouraging ROK nuclearization and re-inventing the MLF/Atlantic Nuclear Force proposal of 1964. 1/10
.@profLind and Daryl Press argue that U.S. nuclear commitments are no longer credible. “U.S. allies need new arrangements to ensure their most critical security needs.” foreignaffairs.com/united-st…

Thanks @SirohiSeema123 for dropping in for my DC session and for sharing your always insightful ‘letter from Washington’. A new perspective in reading your assessments in DC rather than Delhi! I think Rubio’s visit to India and the Quad FM’s meet will mark the start of a better bilateral phase for the friendship with benefits!
