Paraguay's corrupt right-wing President Santiago Peña was a close US ally.
He oversaw the creation of a digital bank called Ueno Bank, which his government heavily promoted. Two-thirds of Paraguayans used the bank.
It turned out to be a massive scheme. The bank gave out many fraudulent loans and is probably insolvent.
When this scandal was exposed, the bank froze access to customer funds, paralyzing the country's economy.
Peña resigned mere minutes before lawmakers voted to impeach him.
Arrest orders have been issued for the bank executives.

For a while now Paraguay has been a darling of the Latin American right, a tiny free market utopia. Elites in Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina had even started hiding money there and registering businesses.
Whole thing is now collapsing under the weight of neoliberal corruption.

Northern Nevada was no exception to the blue tsunami.
Democrats swept in Reno and took control of the Washoe County Commission, which the county believes is the first time it ever happened.

Susie Lee easily won reelection last night. Her nephew, Sam Forstag, won a nail-biter:
I want to congratulate my nephew, Sam Forstag, who gives Montanans hope that this country can work for working people. I am beyond proud. And at this moment, I think of my parents, Warren (an Army veteran) and Joan, a woman who raised 8 kids on one paycheck. They believed that we should care for all people and we should work hard doing it. I have carried that legacy into Congress and I am beyond proud that the next generation will too. Congrats, Sam! Let’s get to work for working people.
Big local flip: Democrats have flipped the county board of Washoe County, Nevada.
That’s Reno. State’s second largest.
This is a big deal. The far-right commissioners here repeatedly refused to certify election results in 2024 until courts intervened to allow elections to be resolved.

Oh, and @TPAction should probably not meddle in primaries ever again.

🚨🇺🇸 This may be the GOP's WORST election night since Watergate in 1974.
Republicans are facing major setbacks as Democrats flip North Carolina's U.S. Senate seat and secure victories in key races nationwide.
The GOP lost 48 House seats, 4 Senate seats, and 4 governorships following Nixon's resignation in 1974.
Today, several races remain undecided; it’s too early to determine whether 2026 will rival that historic defeat.
Nixon wasn't on the ballot in 1974, but his party paid the price...
Sound familiar?

This is the best midterm for the Democratic Party in my lifetime.
I’m so proud of my party. Our obituaries were written two years ago.
MAGA is dead. We’ve risen from the dead.
