You're too much into conspiracy theories.
They are no more than a foom apart from each other
Replying to @fchollet
We are as far today from arbitrary matter replication and grey goo as from AGI.
An argument, in 3 parts.
1. We fundamentally don't understand agency / intelligence.
2. Current AI systems aren't agentic / intelligent, and furthermore, they cannot be.
3. Therefore, AI systems will not pose dangers we do not understand or anticipate.
(Did I get that right?)
Sorry, I'm a member of a 2-person polycule, and we have a policy of not dating anyone outside the polycule.

It would, in fact, be amazing if the Ethereum merge helped mitigate the energy supply shortfall from the EU's reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Now all we need is for Bitcoin to somehow switch PoW from Proof of Work to Production of Wheat, and we'd be all set.
Replying to @scottleibrand @ESYudkowsky
So the effect of the merge is that demand drops, the price drops until production matches demand, gas plants burn less gas, gas gets stored in caverns, more gets shipped to Europe this winter as LNG, and they curtail industrial production and domestic heat less than otherwise.
Is this a lack of awareness of the potential for future threats, or just being resigned to a very short future lifetime?
How can we tackle the two biggest threats to humanity in our lifetime?
We need to seize the moment and make this pandemic and climate change the catalyst for a #HealthierTomorrow.
That doesn't make any less sense than the rest of cryptocurrency.
I'm announcing a new cryptocurrency, called Exposure. The plan is that not-actually-famous people will offer it in exchange for services. It's worthless.
To ensure exposure, all transactions will be public, but ignored by everyone. (Just like all cryptocurrencies' blockchains.)

Web3 is cool and all, but have you heard about Web3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510582097494459230781640628620899862803482534211706798214808651328230664709384460955058223172535940812…? It’s transcendent (but also shockingly irrational).

Well, fuck.
I really did not expect @Meta to catch up with me quite this fast.
Y'all are still on Web 3.0?
I'm working on a Web 7.0 replacement reality DAO. The beta is only running on @neuralink, but we're working on integrating full mind upload and multi-account control.
And don't worry - integration or interaction with standard reality is optional.

Maybe interstellar travel will be limited to ½ light speed (or something like that) so the blockchain can reach consensus on your location and thereby prevent double spending.
Pretty sure a few other things would be more useful.
I'd start with exercise and weight loss, then move on to medical research for lab-grown replacement organs, solving aging-related problems, perfecting brain uploads, and eventually hacking the simulation to reverse entropy.
