What would happen if we saw school related distress as feedback on the system? As a psychologist, I meet many children who are distressed by school. Usually I’m being asked to change that. Can I make them less anxious? Can I make them attend without protest? 1/

There are certain people you cared for professionally who you never forget. And regrets, sometimes, for actions that could have been more skillfully taken. There are certain events that bring all that back. #ThirdDegreeBurns #ThoseWeCarry @ThoseWeCarry

Theologically sound, in my opinion. Probably true as well for ritual of all religions/none.

Healing is a process, not a destination. It is a ritual, not a single spell. All magic, at its heart, is an attempt at healing.

Very pleased that the single-use bathrooms in my @UUtah office building now have information about WHAT is in them, rather than signs about WHO can use them.
Picture of two bathroom doors (white doors with white walls around them) in an office building. The signs next to each bathroom say "RESTROOM" and show images of what is inside. The one on the right has a toilet image and a urinal image. The one on the left has a toilet image. Both have wheelchair access logos as well. There is also a red "RESTROOM SAFETY" sign in between the doors that has COVID-related safety information.

I love science. I also love the concept of magic. I don't find that these ideas conflict. Fact and magic go together like sound and song, like ink and poetry, like truth and metaphor. A good metaphor does not destroy the truth. It brings it home to a human context. (1/4)
Cis people: I need you to understand (and help others understand) that “the trans debate” is NOT relevant “to only a small number of people” but to everyone. Thread below for why: (This is focused on cis women, but cis dudes I need you to listen too. You are also in danger.)

The Brooklyn Public Library has announced that any teenager in America is now eligible for a Brooklyn Public Library card. Teens can sign out ebooks + audiobooks from wherever they live. The move is designed to combat censorship, with some titles listed as "always available."

During the last 10 nights of Ramadan, many Muslims spend more time in Mosques in contemplation & prayer. Mosque ceilings are designed to reflect the magnificence of the universe. For Ramadan, here are spectacular details of 24 Mosque ceilings from around the world… A thread…

Of particular interest to #NeoPagans, perhaps especially to those of us who have never seen a standing stone or barrow in person. (thread and replies)

I just noticed that something called "Morvah Standing Stones" now features on Google Maps, complete with visitor reviews. I'm rather delighted about this, because the "forgotten people of the past" who built it were Terry Davey and his front-loader, in the late 1990s.

This whole thread is worth a read. I'm QTing this tweet because I'm in a liberal state and hadn't seen a way to take helpful action. Working at the federal level makes all kinds of sense to me.

Call your legislators at all levels. Encourage the passage of FEDERAL protection of the LGBTQIA+ community. Queer lives matter. Also, be a safe adult. Be like my mom. Every kid and every person deserves to feel safe.

More than three years ago, I set out to determine how many children in America lost parents to gun violence. Today, we published a story that, for the first time, answers that question: at least 41 a day. (thread) washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/…

Orphaned by gun violence: Two kids, two shootings, two parents gone

Every day in America, more than 40 children lose a parent to shootings, new Post data reveals. Kaleigh and Kavon Washington lost both.
