I think we have reason to believe Bryce sits in that 3rd tier.
Below Bryce is a tier where the offense non-viable in anything but a very strong situation, and average in a strong situation.
What to do with Tier 3 QBs is a fascinating team building question

No QB creates elite offense all by themselves
Elite tier QBs carry good offenses even in awful situations
Tier 2 QBs = capable of elite offense in good situations, average offense in bad situations
Tier 3 QBs = good offense in good situations, bad offense in bad situations

The key question is whether teams should pay a QB in Bryce’s tier what the market demands.
I am strong believer they should not, but teams almost always do.

Conversation on Bryce after last night strikes me as mis-calibrated.
The OL is in shambles. Only an elite QB would have a real shot in that environment.
Bryce clearly isn’t one. But we knew that already.
The early excitement was about him moving from awful to average starter.

A few things to point out here:
- Wash oversaw the 2nd-ranked defense in the league in 2017 and was the DC for the Jags when they went to the AFC title game. He worked with both Canales and Morgan in Seattle.
- Pete Hansen was named assistant defensive coordinator in the offseason -- an unusual title by NFL standards -- and was passed over for the playcalling gig. He will likely remain in his role as mostly an ILB coach.
The #Panthers are parting ways with DC Ejiro Evero and passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley.
DL coach Todd Wash will take over as interim defensive coordinator.

“I think there is some amount of defenses are allowed to rush and pressure the way that they want to because they are not scared of him beating them that much outside of the pocket."

The Packers pressured Bryce Young on nine of his 21 dropbacks in the first half. He went 1-for-7 for 2 yards and 1 INT on those plays. (via @ESPNInsights )
Explains the lack of downfield throws. Panthers struggling to protect off the edge.

Could see Chuba Hubbard going over his receiving yardage projection tonight.
Panthers targeting RBs: 7.3 yards per target, +0.46 EPA/play
Packers defending RB targets: 6.7 yards per target allowed, +0.28 EPA/play allowed

The #panthers are expected to start a secondary of rookie CB Will Lee III and CB Marco Wilson who was signed on 10/6. At safety Nick Scott, Tre’Von Moehrig. Also rookie Zakee Wheatley will be out there, who they've been impressed with so far. Chau Smith-Wade not expected to start.

No slight to Bryce Young he’s playing well but the ceiling is so low for a guy who had the best 6 weeks of his career and is only 16th in EPA
On the flip side Drake Maye’s floor & ceiling is just so high he had the worst 3 games of his career and is top 5
Different beasts

Kaye's Take: I think it's important to point out how bad the talent was on defense in 2024 when the defense gave up the most rushing yards in a season since 1980.
But it's also worth pointing out if you take away the 8 occurrences of 200 or more rushing yards in 2024 (which occurred when Derrick Brown was limited to just one game), they're still tied for the most over the past two years as notable talent has been added to the mix.
Most fans have urged for Ejiro Evero to play rookies, and well, he has since the second quarter of last season, perhaps those young players have played their part in the execution department failures. There have been notable injuries, too.

NFL EPA leaderboards through Week 7 SNF @Unexpected_Pts
QB efficiency with min 150 dropbacks.
- Allen still on top
- Michael Penix and Sam Darnold rising
- Huge drop for Bryce Young

Bryce Young's EPA/pass of -0.71 was the worst for a QB in week 7 (heading into SNF/MNF).
His downfield throw (10+) rate plummeted: from 35% in Wks 1-6 to 19% vs. TB.
He also took more sacks (5)- on a pressure rate similar to the one he typically sees & a relatively low blitz rate (26%).
He also saw zone coverage on 94% of snaps.
I think the 3 are likely related.
I think the fact that the Bucs were getting home with 4, led to a situation where he didn't have as much time to wait for the downfield windows to open late (he usually holds the ball a half second longer vs. zone.)
He had to get the ball out fast (2.42s) and the chunk plays suffered, as a result.
Data: @SumerSports
Bryce Young has been really good this season attacking 2 high on throws of 10+ yds.
But- as of halftime- he has not done that vs. TB.

16. Bryce Young was sacked 5 times on 33 dropbacks today (15.2%).
Before this week, he hadn’t had a single game above a 6.7% sack rate in 2026.
In fact, you’d have to go back to Week 15 of 2024 for the last time he had a sack rate that high.

This is wild: The Bucs are just the second team this CENTURY with 30 points at the half with five or fewer completions.
2026 Buccaneers vs Panthers
2002 Chiefs vs Rams (Trent Green had 10 completions all game)
