I shouldn't criticize others for having no CPS School Closing framework if I don't propose anything myself. So here's my first draft school closing framework... 1/x

The new K-12 federal tax credit is being strongly resisted by the AFT and NEA. What do their members think? They support it.

Karen Lewis would be rolling over in her grave. One of the things CORE promised was not have leadership make more than rank and file
$445,000 for CTU/IFT President @stacydavisgates. So much #winning for teachers. For the kids.

People in Chicago--including many school board candidates--need to understand that this is the reality. Birth rates are down. The kids are not *there* to be recaptured. Work to "bring families back" to CPS is probably changes the picture on the margin, but not by a lot.
I estimate that birth rate is by far the biggest factor in public school enrollment loss. Next up: unsubsidized sector switching, then ESA/vouchers. On the latter: AZ, FL, WV & likely TX are much more impactful on public enrollment than elsewhere, likely due to homeschool subsidy, not tuition.

Big raise. Private school doesn't cost $70k.
Recent pay hike approved by @iftaft for @stacydavisgates bumping her from $180K to $250K. Most recent published reports say she also received $195K as head @CTULocal1 in 2025 for a total now of $445K

Julie writes honestly about CPS as a parent, so her support in this race means a lot to me. Thank you, Julie. A board member’s job is to engage families and answer the hard questions. I’ve done that in District 6 and will keep doing it as Board President. cpfinsider.substack.com/p/it…

"They also all agreed CPS should implement high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction, including the science of reading" --Good! @RhymefestforCPS you're on the board already. What have you done to advance this?
School board candidates in South Side Districts 6B and 10A showed us all how to conduct themselves in a campaign forum without mudslinging. Want to know where they stand on the issues? Learn more in today's Board Rule: board-rule.ghost.io/recap-ch…

Listen I understand y’all want your kids to have their phones at school bc you worry about them and I don’t really feel super strongly either way about school phone bans but why do almost zero parents go as hard on the concerns about how many teachers are saying your kids literally don’t know how to read. This is the future of America and we genuinely argue more over whether or not your kid should be able to have a cell phone than how/why standardized test scores have drastically declined and kids are multiple grade levels behind on reading comprehension

I love the first sentence here.
Most AI policy in schools gets written in rooms with no parents in them. Join NPU President Keri Rodrigues and @InnovateEDU’s Erin Mote on October 30th at 2pm for a live fireside chat to find out what families actually say about AI, screens, and who sees their kid’s data. Teachers and parents agree on what public schools need next. NPU survey parents. E4E polled teachers. Five priorities came out on top: 1. Every kid needs a trusted adult at school. 2. Struggling schools need support. 3. Kids need real help learning to read. 4. Funding should follow student need. 5. Kids need protection from bad tech and training in good tech. Early voted today. All of @biggs4chicago money, but no sign or anyone handing out a flyer for her. Odd. @HilarioForCPS had someone there.

The most egregious Chicago School Board campaign flyer lie was a flyer from @ILCharters that described their favored candidate Ellen Sherratt as a parent to CPS kids. Ellen sends her kids to private school. per @reemadamin @chalkbeatCHI reporting. chalkbeat.org/chicago/2026/1…

Call your senators.
Under the READ Act, schools would have to tell parents when their child is at risk for reading difficulties or reading below grade level. Parents deserve that news early enough to act on it. The Senate has until the end of the year to pass the READ Act. Call your Senators and ask for a vote before time runs out.

At a stadium, the seats are in rows facing the field so people can pay attention to the game. At a concert, they’re in rows facing the stage so people can pay attention to the show. At a movie theater, they’re in rows facing the screen so people can pay attention to the movie. At a church, they’re in rows facing the pulpit so people can pay attention to the service. Teachers, Why are you putting kids in pods with seats that don’t face you? Don't you want them paying attention to you?

This seems right to me; hence my confusion with the 49% claim. I had - nothing personal, I appreciate each reply - three white parents that appear to be high income reply to me saying that people just pack their lunches. Regardless, still nobody has corrected me on.... 1/2
Replying to @ParentCps
I've worked almost exclusively in south and west side schools, so I'm not sure this scales citywide, but that number doesn't match what I would have expected. In my experience it seems closer to 80% maybe more.

....whether @HilarioForCPS ' proposal to increase revenue by boosting school lunch participation is indeed literally the only revenue increase idea other than TIF or state money, coming from any of the three school board presidential candidates.

I've heard @hilario4cps bring this up in a debate too. Would love to see a reporter dig into this. The 49% of kids eating school lunch seems low. Are kids not eating? Are schools failing to record? Can milk and fruit count? Is this another cost of absences? 1/3
Only 49% of CPS students eat school lunch. In Cincinnati, that number is at 80%. Getting lunch participation up by even 10% more in Chicago, could mean more back for our schools from the federal government. Thank you, Eve Ewing, for this conversation. Punch #124 on November 3.

If CPS did bring this number up, would federal funds need to be spent on more lunches so it's not real revenue? I don't know. I do know he should get some credit here for bringing up a specific possible area to grow revenue that doesn't require votes in Springfield. 2/3

I don't trust Hilario at all but at least he is proposing something. I'm not aware of @biggs4chicago bringing up any idea whatsoever that would increase revenue to CPS other than asking for more TIF (correct me if I'm wrong @alainaxhampton please). 3/3
