New prepint on microsporidia genome architecture. We (@peterdfields) find covariance in GC content, chromosomal sequence arrangement, and epigenetic modification doi.org/10.1101/2025.01.20.6…

Here the study I presented @Biology24Zurich. It characterizes whole-genome allele frequency changes in dynamic metapopulations giving insights into their evolution. @peterdfields and I are looking forward to any sort of feedback doi.org/10.1101/2024.01.18.5… (1/4)

We link the shifts to colonization, immigration, and other metapopulation-specific processes. Thus, we demonstrate a novel use of this summary as an indicator of rapid evolution in response to ecology. (3/4)

We contrast these findings with a large, stable population of the same species, which allows us to identify and explicate the ways in which metapopulation dynamics affect SFS in important and quantifiable ways. (4/4)

New year, new study organism! Finally some genomes of porcelain crabs: doi.org/10.1093/g3journal/jk… Many thanks to Jonathon Stillman for involving me in the project. #G3Journal @GeneticsGSA

Thanks for organizing the Microsporidia Fest @BhabhaEkiertLab and offering me the opportunity to give a talk. Is there a tag for #MicrosporidiaFest, or is it a secret organization that I accidentally revealed? See the slides of my short presentation at: github.com/pascalangst/pasca…

Thanks, everyone, for the discussions at #SMBE2023. For those who missed the sweaty poster session, here is a link to our SFS approach for the study of metapopulations doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.… – at Ferrara, Emilia Romagna

I spent two weeks at @Tvarminne doing field work and finishing the genome report for Hamiltosporidium tvaerminnensis – named after this place. It was a truly inspiring trip. Thank you @peterdfields, Dieter Ebert, Jean-François, and Jürgen doi.org/10.1101/2023.06.02.5…

Publication news: Our article about a microsporidium with a genome size of about 2 Mbp. (Eukaryote!) is out in #G3Journal @GeneticsGSA including the first microsporidian mutation rate estimate. When do we celebrate @peterdfields and Dieter Ebert? 🥳 doi.org/10.1093/g3journal/jk…

First chapter of my PhD is available as a preprint! 🥳 We show how evolution of metapopulations differs from more typical (large, stable) populations. Big thanks to my supervisors @peterdfields and Dieter Ebert. Also, thank you Camille Ameline. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Also, we demonstrate that the effective size of a population explains variation in (non-)adaptive evolution within a species, analogous to previous suggestions that it does so across species, by comparing populations of the freshwater crustacean Daphnia magna.

In short the paper is about population genomics of metapopulations and the genomic consequences of extinction-(re)colonization processes, including the potential consequences of habitat fragmentation.
