A train collision in Spain today has killed at least 46 people, according to local media. This is the second train collision in Spain this year, with another crash occurring in January on the same line between Madrid and Andalusia. l.euronews.com/mbIR
It's very confusing. D'Antoni is pretty much saying that he didn't take the time to watch Lin play before Linsanity and forgot that Iman Shumpert was playing a lot as a rookie as a starting PG and wasn't injured one bit. 😳😳. Kudos to Kenny Atkinson always doing the work.
Mike D’Antoni says Jeremy Lin was hours away from being released by the Knicks before Linsanity began
“You know, it almost didn’t come about. Remember, he’s on a 10-day contract. He’s ready to get released. He hasn’t really played, because we’re trying to bring back, I think it was Baron Davis, who was hurt. Iman Shumpert was a little hurt, and we were seeing if he could play point guard. I forget, there was somebody else.”
“So I’m telling my general manager, ‘We need somebody sitting on the bench in case my only point guard goes down. We need somebody.’ And I had him there just in case. That never happened.”
“So he’s ready to be released because these guys are coming back. And Kenny Atkinson, my brother Danny, and Phil Weber came to me. This was on Thursday or Friday before Friday’s game, and they go, ‘You know, Jeremy’s got something. He works out really well. Maybe we should give him a chance.’”
“I go, ‘Hey, we’re going to release him on Tuesday. So if we’re going to give him a chance, we better give him a chance, right?’ And then on Friday, we gave him a chance. It exploded. It really did.”
“It’s funny. I think I went to Florida because my brother had passed away, and you were hurt a little bit. I think Carmelo was hurt. Carmelo got hurt that same game when Jeremy came in and started to go. And then I was in Florida, and when I came back, I’m looking around like, ‘Wait, this is Jeremy Lin? The city’s excited about all this? What is happening?’ I stepped into it. It was a whole uproar. It was a crazy time.”

Kobe Bryant says he would hire a car service to get to road games before the team’s first bus so he could be inside the arena before the crowd arrived and prepare in complete silence, and says he would prepare meticulously for whatever looks the opposing defense was going to give him
“If we had a road game, say Miami, a 7:30pm game, I’d still get up early and do weights. I’d have breakfast, get on the bus, go to shootaround, get my shots up, come back to the room, do treatment, ice, stretch. I might watch a movie, I might watch a little extra film.”
“Then for the bus to the stadium, we had two buses. The first bus was generally around 4:45pm and the second bus was around 5:30pm. I was generally on the early one, just to get treatment and get shots up, because I liked getting to the arenas early.”
“Sometimes I would actually get a car and leave before the first bus because even though the first bus was leaving early, there were still people coming into the stands. I liked getting to arenas when there was nobody in there and you could kind of feel the purity of the place, especially in a road environment.”
“As far as how many shots I was trying to get up, it depended on how I was feeling physically and who we were playing. If I was playing the Spurs, I’d work on short-corner shots, mid-elbow shots, those types of shots because those were the shots their defense would give up. If I was playing Memphis and Tony Allen, I’d work on a lot of back-to-the-basket stuff, putting my body on Tony, making sure my footwork was right, making sure I was hiding the ball so he couldn’t swipe it. I’d go through those muscle-memory things. The positions of the shots would vary depending on the opponent.”

I know a lot of people in the West are baffled by the Mbappé-Mao storm in China - which in itself shows that Mbappé's ignorance doesn't come out of nowhere...
To understand it, here's the best analogy I could think of: imagine the biggest Chinese star in the NBA, with sponsorship deals all over the US. One day he's asked for his favorite meme of himself. He giggles: "the one where they put my face on some guy, I think he was an American slave owner." When the "some guy" in question is George Washington.
Whatever you think of the label, you know exactly how that would land in the US: an ungrateful foreigner getting rich off Americans, laughing at the country's founding father in an offensive way - at least to a big share of the population - without even knowing his name.
A founding father is the story a nation tells itself about where it comes from. Laugh at him as a foreigner while cashing in on that nation's consumers, and that's not going to go well in any country.
The label is also extremely un-nuanced: yes, all important historical figures have their share of darkness and Washington and Mao are no exception.
China actually recognizes this: the official line is that he was "70% right and 30% wrong," and the Party's 1981 resolution condemned how his "personal arbitrariness gradually undermined democratic centralism in Party life and the personality cult grew graver and graver" (marxists.org/subject/china/d…)
Same for Washington: it's officially acknowledged too. Or at least it was until this year: in January, the National Park Service tore down an exhibit in Philadelphia about the people Washington enslaved there, under a Trump executive order targeting content that "inappropriately disparage[s]" Americans (associationforpublicart.org/…). Which goes to show China isn't uniquely touchy about its founding father...
🚨 JUST IN: Chinese beverage company DongPeng has ended their sponsorship with Kylian Mbappé after he referred to former Chinese Premier Mao Zedong as a “dictator”.
The company stated that they have “zero tolerance” for statements that hurt national sentiment. @marca

Alex Pretti's father: Our son was shot and killed by the government, federal immigration agents, on January 24th, 2026. We learned about his death from the media as we saw him being shot repeatedly in the back after helping a woman from his community. This was not a protest that Alex was at. His hands were in the air, and his face was on the ground when he was executed by ICE agents. We know exactly what our eyes saw. No one from the federal government called us on that day. But they did go on TV to tell lies about Alex. No one has called us since. No one has recanted those lies.
