We don’t need the Holy Spirit to help us hate our enemies. We will need Him if we’re ever going to love them, though.

Reminder:
Undocumented Immigrants, Migrants, and Asylum-Seekers are humans who deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. They’re not “illegal aliens” who deserve to be treated like vicious criminals.

Unpopular opinion: You should be more devoted to showing up to church on time than you are to making it to your mon-fri job. Too many people who would never miss work have no problem going to church 60% of the time.

Senate Republicans just sold out the sick and the hungry to cut taxes for the rich and the powerful.
What would Jesus do about this “Big Beautiful Bill”?
I think he would flip over the tables of injustice and call on us to do the same.

Many good Christian colleges out there, but a straightforwardly secular school with a good RUF/local church can often be as good or better than some publicly Christian universities for cultivating faith. FWIW

War does not solve problems; on the contrary, it amplifies them and inflicts deep wounds on the history of peoples, which take generations to heal. No armed victory can compensate for the pain of mothers, the fear of children, or stolen futures. May diplomacy silence the weapons! May nations chart their futures with works of peace, not with violence and bloodstained conflicts!

Yes, there are “No kings” in the United States of America.
There is only one true King over all the Earth:
Jesus.
When pro-life people realize this, then undocumented immigrants, migrants, and asylum-seekers become people to love, not problems to solve. 🙌

If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, and to day laborers throughout California and across the country.
We will hold this administration accountable.

The Ranch Fire in San Bernardino is 4,000 acres and growing.
Meanwhile, 5 of California’s 14 National Guard fire crews are understaffed… because Trump deployed them for a political stunt in LA.
This isn’t just illegal. It’s dangerous.

Let’s get biblical, biblical:
"You shall not wrong or oppress an immigrant." Exodus 22:21
"The immigrant who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you." Leviticus 19:33-34
"Cursed be anyone who deprives the immigrant of justice." Deuteronomy 27:19

Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in California is not about the protests.
It is about expanding his never-ending grasp for more power. It is about moving this country toward authoritarianism.
All Americans must stand together against this gross abuse of power.

LA: Your voice matters.
Trump is trying to provoke chaos by sending 4,000 soldiers onto American soil.
Foolish agitators who take advantage of Trump’s chaos will be held accountable.
Stay safe. Stay calm. Look out for one another.

A couple thoughts on Paas’ church planting book. Might write more soon on Substack
1) Paas takes the wind out of the sails of dominant church planting narratives. With sound research and reasoning, he convincingly argues that the reasons Western evangelicals give to plant churches (more conversions, better at evangelism, etc) are myths. For example, church plants only tend to have higher growth rates than established churches when they are in communities experiencing population boom (this maps onto @ryanburge research). Otherwise, established churches tend to have higher growth rates than plants.
2) Paas also convincingly argues that church plants are only justified if they are innovating new models of missions from the margins. They should not merely repeate what is already being done in their community by someone else.
3) However, I think Paas may overstate his case, or at least neglect to consider the full picture. For example, Paas does not sufficiently evaluate whether diverse Christian expressions are actually better for a community. More importantly, he doesn’t acknowledge a standard by which we should discern healthy churches from unhealthy ones. We shouldn’t assume that indigenous or established churches are healthy, nor that they are positioned to reach their community, nor that they could be convinced to begin reaching their community with enough effort.
Overall, an important contribution to church planting philosophies. Leaders of church planting movements would be wise to listen to his critiques and adjust narratives accordingly.

The only people defending insurrectionists are you and @realDonaldTrump.
Or, are we pretending like you didn’t pardon 1500 of them?
“Didn’t have a problem”? Your state is a criminal sanctuary for millions of illegal alien invaders, cartel killers, foreign terrorists, transnational gangs and insurrectionist mobs. Huge swaths of the city where I was born now resemble failed third world nations. A ruptured, balkanized society of strangers. When our courageous ICE officers, fighting to rescue your communities, came under violent organized attack you and the LA Mayor left them, unforgivably, to fend for themselves. When the rioters swarmed, you handed over your streets, willingly. You still refuse to arrest and prosecute the arsonists, seditionists and insurrectionists. This Administration is fighting to save the city and the citizens you have left to struggle and suffer.

U.S. Marines have served honorably across multiple wars in defense of democracy. They are heroes.
They shouldn't be deployed on American soil facing their own countrymen to fulfill the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial President.
This is un-American.
