Presented at #ASCO26:
Among patients with previously treated metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, the RAS(ON) inhibitor daraxonrasib led to significantly longer overall survival and progression-free survival than chemotherapy. Full phase 3 RASolute 302 trial results: nej.md/4nWaxvM
@ASCO

ALT Graph from a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on daraxonrasib versus chemotherapy for metastatic pancreatic cancer. The x-axis represents months, and the y-axis shows the percentage of patients alive. Two lines indicate survival rates: daraxonrasib (blue) and chemotherapy (gray). The bottom section lists patients at risk over time. Title and journal logo are included.

So folks: this means that if you have obesity…. You are 38% less likely to die if you have bariatric surgery - there are no studies for GLP-1ra that show these dramatic results.
There is a 38% less likelihood of mortality with bariatric surgery than with GLP-ra treatment. #ASMBS2026 as presented by Dr Ali Arminian

Re: My skepticism regarding GLP-1 drugs for obesity
Yes, these drugs are effective for some people.
However, don’t get carried away yet, especially for calls for the widespread use of these drugs. I am old enough to have seen the rise and fall of:
The jejuno-ileal bypass
Very low calorie diets
Vertical banded gastroplasty
Phen-Phen
Gastric bands
Orlistat
Each of these was greeting with substantial enthusiasm and, given enough time, failed when long-term problems became apparent.
Semaglutide roared onto the scene as the cure for obesity. With time, its side effects and limitations became apparent. It took little time before a new class of drugs with multi-receptor properties were advocated as the perfect solution for obesity.
The history of weight loss interventions suggests that these new drugs will also have problems and be abandoned when the next, greatest drug is promoted by Pharma.
I’d like to be wrong on this, but I have been around long enough to experience this cycle repeatedly.

The effect of weight change on death and cardiovascular events afterRoux-en-Y gastric bypass
➡️doi.org/10.1093/bjs/znaf170
This Swedish cohort study of 25,230 patients followed for 10.6 years after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass found that weight trajectories strongly influenced outcomes
1⃣Both continued weight loss beyond the initial nadir and substantial weight regain (>50% of lost weight) were associated with significantly increased risks of major cardiovascular events and death (HRs ~1.5–1.8)
2⃣Patients with modest weight regain (0–20%) after nadir had the most favorable outcomes
These findings highlight the importance of monitoring long-term weight patterns after surgery and providing extra support for high-risk trajectories

IFSO statement@Lancet DE: Med-induced WL isn't a reason to delay bariatric surgery. Many stop meds due to cost, intolerance, or wanting a "definitive" fix. Clinicians must not wait for the predictable relapse of complications. The goal is sustained health, not temporary metrics
