One of my close friends is what I’d call MAGA-lite. She holds a nationalist worldview, is deeply skeptical of the Democratic Party, and has never voted for a Democrat. That changes this year: she’ll vote Democratic for the first time since she began voting.
She has four reasons:
1. She supported tougher border enforcement, but opposed deporting people who obey the law, hold jobs, pay taxes, and contribute to society.
2. Trump promised no new foreign wars, yet launched a war with Iran that has fueled inflation and shows no clear sign of ending.
3. She believes in free markets and doesn’t consider tariffs free-market policy. She also sees them as one driver of inflation.
4. She hates that Trump is cozying up to Putin by buying Russian diesel and waiving sanctions.
Her decision surprised me, though at the same time it didn’t. In my view, voting against Republicans this midterm is the most honest choice a conservative can make if they remain true to their principles.

According to CNN, Zelensky’s workday begins between 3 and 4 in the morning, when the first battlefield reports arrive.
He drinks strong black coffee, no sugar, to push through the early hours.
Even under constant pressure, he has not lost his sense of humor and still finds brief moments to reset.
The years of war, strain, and emotional weight are visible on him. No one carries that kind of burden without it showing.
And yet he remains standing.
Respect to Volodymyr Zelensky.

IT WAS THE HUG SEEN ‘ROUND THE WORLD 🌎 After delivering the eulogy at his son Beau’s 2015 funeral, President Obama embraced Joe Biden warmly at the front of the church, and kissed him on the cheek.
Beau Biden “did not have a mean bone in his body” and was the consummate public servant and family man, Obama had said.
With tears in his eyes and an occasional slight tremor in his voice, the president explained that Beau Biden had “shoulders broad enough not only to bear your own burdens but the burdens of others.”
Obama attended the funeral with his wife, Michelle, their daughters, Malia and Sasha, and his mother-in-law, Mary Robinson — “honorary Bidens,” as the president called them. He said the Biden family “rule” was that, before help was even sought, family members would be there for each other.
“I can only imagine the burdens you have been forced to bear,” he told the Biden family. “As you were there for him, we will be there for you. We have become part of the Biden clan. We are honorary members now and the Biden family rules apply. We are always here for you – my word as a Biden.”
“We are here to grieve with you but more importantly we are here because we love you,” Obama ended.
I miss that kind of character from a commander-in-chief.

That’s exactly where Starmer was heading. We would have been there with Canada in July at the summit if Burnham hadn’t derailed the whole project.
Such a waste of time and money. Burnham is a disaster.

He urges Europe and Britain not to be “caught asleep” again in the face of rising security challenges, calls for a “common security framework” between the EU and the UK, and warns the Trump presidency is not an “aberration” but a “permanent change”
Starmer says:
“A stronger Europe is vital and the UK must be at the heart of it. Europe has twice been caught asleep - failing to anticipate and prepare for predictable events.
"First when Russia’s attack on Ukraine exposed long-standing European weaknesses on defence and security; and second when President Trump made clear, once and for all, that the US will no longer bankroll our European security. We have to catch up.
“I will say here what I have said to European leaders. This is about responding to a permanent change of affairs, not an aberration of the Trump Presidency. Things will not go back to the way they were before.
“That doesn’t mean the US relationship is no longer important. On the contrary, the military, security and intelligence alliance is far too strong for that. But it does mean enabling Europe to take on far more responsibility for its own defence and security.
“Increased defence spending is a part of that, but the challenge goes far beyond that. We need to build up pan-European co-operation and co-ordination on defence and security - a common security framework as much as a common market. The EU is changing to respond to that, but it cannot be the EU alone when Europe’s periphery is core to its defence.
“Britain must be central to that project. We are one of two nuclear powers. We are a leading NATO member. We have a viable next generation fighter jet programme. And we are pledged to work alongside European allies to guarantee security in Ukraine.
"Ireland and the UK stand side by side in the coalition of the willing and with Ukraine, working together to guarantee and shape the security of our continent. I hope and believe that Britain’s relationship with its friends and allies can and should be strengthened by this urgent and common security project.”
He spoke in Dublin after meeting Taoiseach Micheal Martin and being given an award by the British Irish Chamber of Commerce

European governments question why their taxpayers should keep pouring billions into the American defence industry while Washington undermines European security.
European defence policy is shifting towards domestic production. Future weapons contracts will favour European manufacturers.
For the United States, the consequences will be enormous. Over the next 20 years, American defence companies will miss tens of billions of dollars in contracts.
Trump may occupy the White House for another two years. The industrial consequences of his presidency will last for decades.
Europe’s money will build Europe’s security, industries and jobs.
