I'll match anyone who donates their $50 or donate $100 for anyone that takes the refund. I'll go up to $1000

It's insane how effective this is with a bit of instrumentation. It's like being given the cheat codes to go fast with safety.

* swift deploys let you ship a single changeset by a single dev at a time
* making it easy to isolate the owner of any problem
* preventing the blast radius from expanding
* and making it easy to fix while the intended effects of the code are fresh in their mind

This is the real goal of CI/CD -- to shrink the software lead time to an interval short enough that human learning systems (dopamine, adrenaline) can usefully map to the feedback loop of writing and shipping code.
(and then of course there's @darklang, the hot stove of software)

Day Zero Deployment to Production is an amazing enabler to innovation. Building the platform to support it takes a shwack of dedication and planning. Excited to see this in practice!

Great article by @paulosman ! "Things will always break" is such a key point that many things hinge from. paulosman.me/2019/12/30/prod…
This technique is insanely powerful. We previously worked against a set of tests that were to "mirror" production. Spent over 6 months setting everything up. First actual production day came and that "mirror" was completely off. Two days of this technique tuned everything...
"why you should frequently turn down ~30% of your instances" -- this is brilliant, it's sort of reverse load test in production for stateless services. just create a canary group, then turn down capacity til the strain shows.

Apparently I've been wanting to work in a Product led company for a large part of my career and didn't even know it. Loving "Escaping The Build Trap" @lissijean !

There is no, has never been, and will never be any environment that looks just like prod.
🌺Only production is production.🌺 Test in prod or live a lie.

Hard disagree.. the question should be, “how do o create environments that look just like prod so we can test there”.. and try to tell this to any regulator..

I'd rather spend $3000 on someone who can use it than wasting it on Twitter ads, so here we go

Not only can Friday deploys be done on nice new shiny systems but we converted a 500k LOC PHP legacy app with millions of users to do it as well. Best part: that first year after conversion was THE MOST STABLE YEAR in its existence.
It's not about Fridays; it's about the swift, virtuous feedback loop that feeds and sustains healthy systems. (Also hopefully the last time I ever have to write about this fucking topic, holy crap.)

1/n A bit of history: DataConstruct Inc was originally started by my mother in 2007. She started consulting making small custom applications in Microsoft Access. A few years in, she found an opportunity to build her own application serving a niche here in Canada.
6/n I thought "what am I going to do?". After a bit of panic, sweat and some coordination I've been able to work through the outage and get everything back up and running. It made me think "geez, I don't think I'd ever have the guts to run my own physical servers..."
