The circular AI-economy grows & grows... Nvidia, AMD & Broadcom all reported to be buying shares. Meta's stock repurchases over the last 5yrs total $148.6bn. They were $26.2bn in 2025 alone. Feels like the pyramid might be about to collapse. theguardian.com/technology/2…

(4/8) The corporate tax is a better way to tax capital than many, since it doesn’t exempt foreigners, endowments, or retirement earnings. It can reach billionaires, respond to offshoring, and handle the challenge of taxing AI profits, regardless of how that turns out.

The US is becoming the go-to tax haven for wealthy Chinese elites. Shameful. Why? Because it never joined the global tax transparency regime. The real test now is: will US banks actually meet their anti-money laundering obligations?

The way this is shaping up is reminiscent of how the debate on gas shales / fracking evolved. The debate around tax breaks for data-centres in the US has become a lightening rod for a host of all other concerns about the impact and power of "Big Tech". huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/d…

This Forbes investigation is a must-read. Donald Trump pulled in roughly $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025, plus more than $200 million from real estate, and faced a projected tax bill north of $500 million. So his company donated the "development rights" to his Jupiter, Florida golf course to a land trust, argued the course was a natural habitat worth protecting, and kept right on running the club. Forbes estimates the write-off could land around $825 million. He has done this at least five times since 2005. New York's attorney general alleged two of those appraisals were inflated. In Doral, he claimed a deduction of up to $323 million, more than double what he paid for the entire resort. A month after the Jupiter deal, he sued the IRS. The settlement his own Justice Department signed bars claims against him over matters that "could be pending," language that appears broad enough to cover this year's taxes. A federal judge found the case was brought to manipulate the judicial process. And the man now running the IRS, who took the job as this deal was being assembled, has a home backing onto those same Jupiter fairways. This is absolutely ridiculous. Nobody should be able to use the presidency to write his own tax bill. forbes.com/sites/danalexande…

If the likes of Microsoft want to build consensus in the UK for their new data centre investment, they should begin by actually ensuring that a fairer proportion of their profits are booked in the UK (and not shifted to Ireland to avoid tax). theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

It's very possible that tobacco industry are correct that HMRC under-estimate illicit tobacco sales, but ASH are correct that they are saying this to lessen taxes on thier products. The answer is to clamp down further on illicit high-street tobacco sales. thetimes.com/article/1b65bef…

Long & short, the UK needs to change its procurement rules to allow towns & cities to overtly factor corporate tax conduct into their decision making. The current straight jacket is ridiculous. It wasn't so long ago towns couldn't delist Russia's Gazprom! theguardian.com/technology/2…

This 100%. But you would not believe how many of the advocates of 'a wealth tax' are blind to this. Often think it's simply because it's not "new"
(1/11) 🧵In my piece in today’s FT, I argue that the corporate tax is an excellent tool for taxing the same wealth that proponents of billionaires’ taxes (or the CA wealth tax) are reaching for. Link at end of thread.

Brilliant work from taxwatch calling bullshit on this one
BREAKING: this week's papers have been full of a story that Britain's 2nd-richest person left the UK for Monaco this summer, driven offshore by non-dom and other tax changes. Only one problem: according to official docs, he left the UK over a decade ago. taxwatchuk.org/how-many-time…

All the Laffer Curve bozos gone into hiding eh?xitter.cf/SteveRattner/status/21…
Corporate profits and tax revenues grew together until the Trump tax cuts. Now corporate profits are at an all-time high while tax receipts are at their lowest since 2021.

As quoted, it is absolutely unacceptable that so much revenue is generated in the UK by Alphabet / Google, but so little profit booked here. Same goes for much of Europe - with obvious exception of Ireland! mirror.co.uk/money/google-ta…

Amodei says economic support for the AI-displaced will be needed, and to pay for this we have to be open to increases in capital gains tax, taxes on AI companies and /or changes to corporation tax. Hopefully an adult conversation on this about to open up. abcnews.com/Business/exclusi…
