Don't tell me that private healthcare will solve the crisis of our public healthcare system.
Instead let's rebuild the public system we cherish. Let's protect health workers. Let's make the system equitable.

Beyond thrilled. As a non-profit newsroom focused on issues affecting often overlooked corners of Toronto, the spotlight of these national awards means a great deal to us, and I hope, the communities on which we report.
The Local is nominated for three @CAJ awards.
“We are honoured and proud to see The Local’s journalism being recognized alongside the very best work on the national stage,” said editor-in-chief @taimhuynh. thelocal.to/the-local-receiv…

Great campaign.
The the new “Be seen, grab a brick!” campaign to promote pedestrian safety at crossings and other locations where motorists might not see brick-less pedestrians.

Helluva longform feature by @royinori for @TheLocal_TO. Toronto's running out of burial space, and a series of under-the-radar skirmishes between cemeteries and funeral homes will determine the future of death in the city. thelocal.to/toronto-cemeteri…

🧵🏠National Housing Day has always been a day of struggle but also celebration for small wins. One of those wins was kind of big - it was the 1999 announced federal homelessness program that continues to this day. But it's not a national housing program...2

There is a real horror show of antisemitism and Islamophobia going on in this country, and it feels like there is no way through it, man. I personally have never seen it this bad. I say “rising” but that doesn’t capture it?? It’s been “rising” for years, now it’s full-blown wave

An absolute honour to be able to support Minister of Health @MarkHollandlib and Minister for Seniors @SeamusORegan and their teams in advancing the implementation of Canada's new @LTCStandards and the development of Canada's forthcoming Safe Long-Term Care Act. We can do this!

“This is my friend's 17 year old nephew, Tanner. Yesterday he was enjoying a day at Scissortail Park with his mother and younger siblings when he noticed a person struggling in the pond. Tanner's mom said he did a quick double take then without a word he was running toward the water. She had no idea what was happening but Tanner knew someone needed him. His instincts took over and this guy saved a drowning 2 year old!!! He suffered a head injury in the process and had to have staples. Police, fire and medics responded and the child's mother cried uncontrollably with gratitude. Tanner is humble, compassionate and really does not understand how much heartbreak his actions have saved a family.”

Incredible work!!!!
The same culture and structures of privilege in medicine that alienate medical students from racialized and marginalized communities, is what harms patients from the same communities.
