Interesting: In 2004, when voters in 13 states passed bans on gay marriage, just 29% voted against them. In 2026, when seven states voted on anti-trans policies, 46% of voters rejected them.

The gay marriage campaigns were way better resourced than trans rights has ever been and bans on gay marriage were enacted in 90% of ballot contests in the 2000s, usually with 70+ percent of the vote. A loss is a loss but the field is better than conventional wisdom assumes

When trans rights are part of a coalition - tied to abortion rights in Missouri or with candidate/party platforms across the country - we did well. When we're isolated as a single issue we have to figjt uphill. That's the lesson.

i’d say it mainly demonstrates that most americans are broadly fine with trans people existing and generally pro-equality, but don’t actually think it’s possible to change one’s sеx. the general public thinks medical transition is cosmetic. they hear “trans” and think “pronouns.”

Replying to @amazonmilkfrog
stuck 97% there for way too long, huh? and they say the south isn't trans.

Remember folks, proposition 8 banning gay marriage passed in California in 2008. It's important to take the long view. Republicans getting crushed while running on being anti-trans was a necessary first step.

when he signed the civil rights act, lbj famously told his press secretary bill moyers “we may have lost the south for your lifetime—and mine” and my brother pointed out bill moyers died last year.

ALT wikipedia page reading “Billy Don Moyers (June 5, 1934 – June 26, 2025) was an American journalist and political commentator who served as the eleventh White House Press Secretary from 1965 to 1967 during the Lyndon B. Johnson administration. He also served as the de facto White House Chief of Staff for a brief period from 1964 until 1965.”
It's crazy to betray Michigan now, on the precipice of nuclear holocaust, which will kill everyone on Earth except those in the Upper Peninsula, who will progenate the next human society, in which stories of you will metamorphose eventually figuring you as a kind of folk Satan.

Learned about phrase yolo on NPR. It is what all the "kids" are saying. "You only live once." Better take that to heart as I am getting old.

Our hypothesis: LLMs have a pressure for information density, leading to compressed language, novel ngrams, and a preference for short alternatives in linguistic alternations, even when this is not humanlike - humans have a pressure for successful communication with other humans

genuinely, this kind of brainwormed neurotic sophistry is worse than even the most virulent anti-trans activism
just sowing division and crab-bucketing for no reason and with no redeeming qualities; at least the mean girl straight dolls have aura
