This is absolutely wretched news. Desperately saddened to hear of Ryan's passing, especially in such senseless circumstances. I only met him once in person last year but he brought such passion, energy and humour to his organizing and campaigning work. He will be sorely missed.
I am devastated to share that my dear friend Ryan Carson, who worked for NYPIRG and created the advocacy organization “No OD NY”, was murdered last night. I met Ryan many years ago through the DIY punk scene and he has been a trusted friend in Albany and at home. I miss him.

I'm repeatedly struck by the different sized teams behind legislators in my home country (UK) vs adopted one (US). In the UK I would have 1 MP with probably 3-4 staff. In the US I have 4: two state and two federal reps. My state senator alone has 15 members of staff.
