Aylesbury Estate tenants & residents at today's Our Aylesbury's launch of their community retrofit plan instead of demolition.
Great to just hear working class people clear on what they want: council housing, mould free safe homes, health equity and communal spaces.
analysis shows developers can’t build enough social housing because their product is for the investor market, not for people who need a home they can afford. When will politicians & developers accept they are the wrong industry for building homes as homes? @RestoreConnect @Miatsf

HOUSING INC.
We've heard this often in #Peckham:
"Who are they building those for?
Definitely not for me."

Finally Finally. Now you are talking! Healthy Walkable Gentle Density with balconies, shutters, nature at your doorstep, large windows, vertical and horizontal subdivision, and not cheap and nasty orange bricks with uPVC, towers or suburbia. Thank you @boys_nicholas and @createstreets for tirelessly pushing mid- rise streets and squares. Thank you @PpeterPeter for pushing for more interesting architecture and narrower back to back distances, and showing us how it's done. @Miatsf @AngelaRayner @helenadollimore @PeckhamVision @PeckhamHeritage @Paulscott95Paul @shivmalik @omidmiri93

"We want more homes and we want our town centres and communities to benefit from that growth - but development comes with a price tag. More homes mean more pressure on our roads, parks, public spaces and other infrastructure, and developers should make a fair contribution towards dealing with that impact" @LBRUT richmond.gov.uk/news/news_se…
thank you @56aInfoshop for arranging this important session to take stock and share our understandings.

Well this says it all... housebuilders share prices rise due to Help to Buy, and so sadly will house prices themselves.
It's not a route to more housing that is affordable to local people. It's a prop to developers.
FT (£) Shares in UK housebuilders surge on new Help to Buy scheme. Gains were led by Vistry, the sector’s worst performer, which rose 16%. Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon and Crest Nicholson were all up 15% and Barratt Redrow gained 14%. ft.com/content/964a6d85-a6d9… via @ft

My latest: @MayorofLondon draft London Plan proposes a denser, taller city, including Green Belt development, but still not meeting housing need targets. Just four weeks left for Londoners to have their say. Plus, floating homes in Docklands?

Congrats to @ACAPeckham for raising £5k to pay more legal costs. This is to join @lb_southwark to oppose @BerkeleyGroupUK appeal against Planning Inspector's refusal of their plans for the Aylesham site. Not against development, but to stop significant harm to Peckham's heritage.

AH! The mythical ELSEWHERE being proposed for any sort of housing people might be able to afford to live in. which UNaffordable is, of course, NOT. "The developer is also proposing to contribute more than £30m towards affordable housing elsewhere in Southwark." [if 'viable' 😂!]
