I just realized I have the biggest non-verified account on Twitter.* *Except for the others. But at least I am still forced to stick to the 280 character limit, for my benefit and yours.

Claiming that the problems of NYC pubiic schools are caused by “segregation” is a convenient way to avoid acknowledging the structural and budgetary problems that plague the school system so they can claim that the solution is something that can never fully be satisfied

Good Question. Good answer.
Replying to @CWBChicago
Why is every sentence in Illinois reduced by 50%? Why can't they just say the sentence is 3 years instead of pretending it is 6 years?

Many argue that the drop in socializing is tied to the rising cost of going out-- restaurants, bars, etc. But @jburnmurdoch shows that the decline in socializing has been even steeper in free settings, simply spending time with friends at each other's homes.

The ACLU is a good example of an organization that is being hollowed out by activists who don't understand its real mission. The goal is not to protect "vulnerable" communities. The goal is to protect civil liberties.
NEW: The ACLU of Indiana is in turmoil after several of its most influential civil rights attorneys submitted their resignations in protest of the organization's direction under its board and incoming leader, multiple sources told @indystar . indystar.com/story/news/poli…

As I've said before, I like Mamdani a lot, but this Latino security guard's death wasn't just about gun violence -- it was also about the failure of New York to address low-level criminality, disorder, and antisocial behavior in public spaces. Bring back broken-windows policing.
It is totally unacceptable to ask riders to enforce the rules on transit in a country with over 400 million guns. We need more police and private security on our trains and buses. nydailynews.com/2026/10/22/b…

Tattoos were illegal in NYC until 1997. If you wanted a legal pain stain, you had to go elsewhere. Otherwise, you had to know someone who knew someone or learn a password or secret knock. 36-year ban followed a 1961 hepatitis B outbreak traced to a Coney Island tattoo parlor.

1/ I'm critical of mainstream trans activism, especially when it comes to youth gender medicine. But I think it's important to remember that gender dysphoria is real, these are human beings, and that it's possible to criticize a movement without being cruel to individuals.

Horrific that a masked teenager with his whole life ahead of him shot a man over a random "dispute" with an illegal gun. It would have been a blessing if police had stopped the shooter before this happened: the victim would have survived, and he would have avoided a murder charge. Could fare enforcement have stopped the shooter from entering the subway? What about a mask ban? We don't necessarily want to return to Bloomberg-era stop-and-frisk, but giving police more opportunities to engage people involved in low-level criminality would probably be a good thing.
Massively disingenuous for NYPD to have called this “targeted.” If they didn’t know each other, it wasn’t “targeted.” Yet another unprovoked stranger on stranger subway killing.

Relatedly, I don't think civilian enforcement in NYC is going to work. The Eagle teams have never really worked well. They cost more than they bring in. We need more police enforcement, immediately, and stopping the Eagle teams in the context of a mayor who wants free buses without that more police enforcement to replace them is a bad idea. This is not Europe. The bus is now effectively free.

Did NYC/ NYPD take down their link to weekly Compstat data? PDF and Excel? Why can't I find it? I don't want "2.0" because it isn't useful and it blows.
