It was fascinating to talk with @mactra for this longform interview on @PhantomPod about architecture, acoustic media, and the noisy environments of open-plan offices. phantompod.org/office-noise/

We’re beyond thrilled that EYE is making a rare appearance at Unsound this year. The word legend is thrown about a lot - here, it totally applies. EYE will perform a DJ set on 5th October - his freeform, noisy, percussive style is sure to blow minds. goingapp.pl/polecamy/unsound

Wanna get paid to look through these records at the National Sound Archive for 6 months with me? Then send me a DM for details! For once the role does not require SQL/database/XML/metadata etc knowledge - Excel & solid familiarity w/vinyl records are the main prerequisites - hmu!

Learnt very quickly that my ‘common’ accent marked me out, especially working around BBC Radio 3 and 4. I’ve been very self conscious of it and only recently learning to be proud of who I am.
🚨 Accent prestige in the UK 🚨 Our research has found that a hierarchy of accent prestige remains in Britain 🗣️ Received Pronunciation is considered the most prestigious, while accents associated with industrial cities and ethnic minority accents are ranked lowest.

Definitely an influence on my work! Especially as a teen and into my 20's in the 1990's...I created ambient mixes with these records amongst other music and sounds. This approach eventually lead to a project where I had dubplates/vinyl cut of my field recordings which were used in a live performance, that also involved radio transmitters and radios.

I had a good period of collecting these on records. Tintinnabulation from the Env2 LP is my fave early morning background vibe. Love which ever number the vocal track intonation is form, and have used samples off the Okefonokee Swamp LP in my own music. Vital collection!

There is one recording of Washington Square park that truly made me realize the how important field recording is to hearing history at that moment.

Scam or sincere, novelty or transcendent, it doesn’t matter - these records are a fascinating snap shot of the intersection between sounds, self help, snake oil salesmen and the ultimate seashore - I love them – at London, England

Hey, Mack here. I'm writing a thing on Syntonic Research Inc.'s ENVIRONMENTS series. Do any sound artists, field recordists, ambient musicians, etc have a comment? Did these records influence you at all--positively or negatively? (Thank you--and please retweet!)

Massive influence. Used in multiple mixes and sets!! One tries beatmatching techno to crickets chirping but not sure that I actually succeeded lol
