i think the problem comes from people who don't "contribute" yet still expect content catered toward them. like people who leave no comments or love for a fic, but the moment it doesn't update in a week they're like "um? where is the next chapter?" it's very entitled

I’m not a fic writer but I would not be here drawing fanart and participating enthusiastically in fandom if it weren’t for the honestly under appreciated fic writers of fandoms who opened my mind to lots of ships & ideas I would otherwise not have considered or grown to like/love

yall are massive liars. writers are NOT mad for the vanity reasons that yall are desperate to claim (as it makes writers look bad so that yall can try to control the narrative). writers ARE mad about being excluded from communities & having their work reuploaded without consent.+
I’d argue trying to tell writers they should shut up and just be emotionless content farms for your entertainment is the actual capitalist mindset here

Actually the "I want to treat AO3 like a streaming service and just mindlessly consume and never once consider that an actual person made this" mindset is far more capitalistic than "I like being appreciated for my work" could ever be.

Local twat mistakes the ability to put words on a page for actual storytelling ability, media literacy is so dead.

Mind you all it would take for anyone to become a fic author is to open word key smash a sentence and post it. Unless you want to claim there is a skill criteria to becoming a fic writer and thereby nullifying the essence of ao3 🤭

Here we are, five days in, and people are saying “how dare you want to be part of your community, you’re the reason why ai is invading ao3” so naturally, I assume a wave of “we don’t need ungrateful writers, AI can write our fics for us” to show up on the tl in like… three days.
“I contribute absolutely nothing and am above you for it” righttttt

Whether you like it or not, the silent observers are doing the heavy lifting even if not actively engaging the way you want them to 😂 ESPECIALLY on SNS platforms
Anyone who is posting in favour of fics being reuploaded without Author’s consent are absolutely normies that joined fandom in 2020 and never left, you genuinely cannot convince me otherwise

there’s a certain irony to not respecting authors as humans while also acting like you’re going to die if you can’t read their work for the next few weeks

This is why i side with authors. This makes me incredibly sad.

When AO3 returns, I'll find the writers on social media and send them the fanart I made reading theirs fics

and if i say this is the exact same type of argument the ai bros use…

heartbreaking: reader who doesn't contribute anything to the fandom threatens to stop reading an author's fics because they seriously believe that the lack of their passive interaction with fan content will "punish" said author

Back in my day people shared links directly to the original author's work and their original websites and sent them emails and drew them fanart and asked to hang out with them
As OP correctly points out, y'all ain't historians: y'all are just common thieves
