Thank you so much for opening your doors for the girls.
Being at the front line of decision making is all that girls want.

As we mark Girls’ Month, I hope we continue creating more opportunities for girls to experience leadership, find their voices and see what is possible for them, especially on issues that shape their future.
My appreciation goes to @KasogaPhoebe, Country Director of @PlanUganda, for championing efforts that put girls’ voices at the centre of conversations on climate change and the decisions that will shape their future.

A girl’s future should never be defined by the barriers placed in her way.
This October, @PlanUganda joins the #ChangeHERForecast campaign to amplify the voices, leadership and agency of girls who are challenging expectations, influencing decisions and creating new possibilities for themselves and others.
At our launch of the #StateofTheWorldsGirlsReport decision makers in Uganda joined us from different government ministries with @MercyLakiskis the state minister for youth and children affairs leading the launch and a team of girl representatives from different parts of the country.
Girls are not just want to be raising voices of the challenges they face but having them at the front line of decision making is what girls want.

Thank You Hon.Minister for your warm hospitality and opening up your door for the girl child.
Today, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development partnered with Plan International Uganda for a symbolic Girls Takeover. In demonstration of our commitment to youth empowerment, I had the privilege of stepping aside for an exceptional young leader, who temporarily assumed the duties of Minister for Youth and Children Affairs.
This initiative transcends symbolism; it serves as an institutional affirmation that girls are active decision-makers and leaders of today and tomorrow. Opening high-level governance spaces to young women amplifies their voices, builds transformative confidence, and safeguards their right to participate in national development.
Every girl in Uganda deserves to be heard, empowered, and positioned to lead. By investing in their potential today, the Government of Uganda remains dedicated to building an inclusive, equitable, and prosperous nation for generations to come.

What does it feel like to sit in the seat of a leader?
As part of the Uganda launch of Plan International’s 2026 State of the World’s Girls report, #ChangeHerForecast, we welcomed the girls to #NextMediaPark for the launch and a tour that gave them a taste of leadership. From sitting in different EXCO seats to stepping into the roles of decision-makers, they got a glimpse of what it means to lead.

We were glad to host @PlanUganda as we continue to champion a future where every girl has the opportunity to thrive.

One of the highlights of hosting @PlanUganda at the #NextMediaPark for the launch of its 2026 State of the World’s Girls report, #ChangeHerForecast, was seeing the girls step into the shoes of our EXCO members and take up leadership roles across different departments.
For a moment, they got to experience what it feels like to be in the room where decisions are made.

Yesterday, UWONET joined @PlanUganda for the launch of the State of the World’s Girls 2026 report, titled "Change Her Forecast", which explores how the climate crisis can heighten risks such as sexual violence, child marriage, and unintended pregnancy, limiting girls’ opportunities and futures.
The launch highlighted the importance of protecting girls’ rights, addressing the gendered impacts of the climate crisis, and ensuring that girls have the support and opportunities they need to shape their own futures.

A girl’s future should not be decided by a pregnancy test.
Today, we join @PlanUganda and partners to commemorate #DayOfTheGirl under the theme: Change her forecast. The theme challenges us to reflect on what kind of future we are preparing for the girl child.

🌍 Change Her Forecast: Invest in Her Future.
This evening, Esther, a girl-child advocate from Lira, Uganda, stepped into the role of State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs in a symbolic #GirlsTakeover at the @Mglsd_UG, shadowing Dr.@MercyLakiskis.
Through her advocacy, Esther highlighted how climate change is affecting the everyday lives of girls across Uganda, particularly in remote communities where climate-related hardships are deepening existing inequalities and increase vulnerability to harmful practices, including child marriage.
"Climate change is not just an environmental issue, it is also a girls’ rights issue".
When climate shocks disrupt livelihoods, education and household stability, girls must not be left to bear the greatest burden.
Girls must be heard, protected and empowered to shape the decisions that affect their futures. Changing her forecast means investing in her rights, strengthening her resilience and ensuring every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead and thrive.
When girls lead, the future can change. 💙
