Close the Borders
President Trump and Vice President Vance have wise advice for France and other European countries that are seeing rioting, anarchy and destruction in their streets.
“CLOSE THE BORDERS.”
Vice President Vance warned that, “in the name of diversity and compassion, Western liberals imported the third world into France.” He said, “They ignored fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility. They were told it would lead to this and they didn’t listen.”
There are lots of reasons for the rioting in France. French media called it “student protest over school conditions.” Other marchers came out against expensive living conditions and high fuel prices.
This dissatisfaction has been growing and occasionally bleeding out into the streets of France for decades. According to Reason Magazine, “France has built an enormous welfare state, much of it devoted to older citizens, while letting other state capacities and basic services fall apart.” Now students complain the government is shortchanging schools and “everyone sees that it is shortchanging its army and police.”
With protests as a smoke screen for vandalism, rioters and looters have joined in. The proliferation of Communist and Palestinian flags reveals the presence of far-left activists, Islamists, and African thugs.
This is why our president and vice president want European countries to curtail immigration. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, France’s foreign-born population has reached a historic high, with immigration increasingly originating from outside Europe.
As historian, Victor Davis Hanson explains on his podcast, in France, “the unemployment rate of new immigrants is almost 50%.” He says many immigrants’ attitude toward their host country “is not magnanimity, it’s contempt.”
Social commentator Rod Dreher says history teaches “that civilization is fragile. It can be taken from us — or, as in Europe today, it can be thrown away by fools who don’t realize how hard it was to build, and is to maintain,” and “who either hate it, …or just don’t care.”
A wise warning for the U.S.

Tomorrow is October 31st. Most people know it as “Halloween” but it also has long been known as The Festival of the Dead. The Celtic tribes and their priests, the Druids, celebrated this day as a marker for the change from life to death. November 1 was the beginning of the New Year, so Halloween or “Samhain,” was like New Year's Eve. It was both a time of death and new beginnings.
The young would wander the countryside disguised in scary masks, carrying turnips carved into scary jack-o'-lanterns to frighten off ghosts and goblins. They believed that the veil between the living and the dead was believed to be the thinnest at this time, and therefore one could most readily communicate with loved ones in spirit. Deuteronomy 18 warns us not to be involved in any activity that includes divination.
The term Halloween is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the evening before “All Hallows’ Day” also known as “All Saints’ Day.” Pope Gregory moved the day from May 13 to November 1. This made Halloween the eve of this celebration. November 1 became “All Hallow Mass,” and October 31, became “All Hallow’s Even.”
Today, Halloween has become one of the more celebrated holidays. We are told that people spend more on decorations at Halloween than any other holiday except Christmas. And often the Halloween celebrations have included more and more occultic activity. Christians have two options: to ignore Halloween or to provide an alternative. Many churches now provide a Fall Fun Festival.
I hope you have thought about what you will do tomorrow. Don’t just go with the flow. Make an informed decision about what you will do on Halloween.

🙏Pray for America🙏
Much is at stake...
Election Day 2026 is almost here, and early voting has been underway for weeks in many states. Recently, I encouraged you to pray over the midterm elections. Today, just five days before the election, I ask you again to pray for our nation at this crucial juncture.
Voters across the nation are concerned with which party will control the House and Senate after Tuesday, and rightfully so. The results of Tuesday’s election will determine what the final two years of Donald Trump’s presidency are like.
Clearly, we need to pray about the results of the election, and that includes praying about the voter turnout. Many people don’t vote in midterm elections, and even more Americans fail to vote all the way down the ballot for smaller offices that have a great impact on local communities.
We should also pray for safety and integrity on Election Day. A peaceful election process is something we may be tempted to take for granted in America, but it is far from the norm. Pray for protection over voters, poll workers, candidates, and the voters themselves as we gear up for Tuesday, November 3.
Please pray the following prayer along with us:
Dear God,
Stir the hearts of Americans, especially Christians, to vote in the midterm elections. Remind those who may have forgotten, and convict those who may not view their vote as important.
Give voters wisdom, clarity, and discernment with their choices.
We ask for your protection over the entire election process. Protect voters. Protect poll workers. Protect the integrity of each vote and the results.
Give us grace to trust You and reflect Your ways no matter the outcome. May our lives always point to You as our ultimate hope and answer.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Thank you for praying today. Prayer is the most powerful thing we can do in any situation. Please share this prayer to encourage others.

What do alchemy and our modern currency have in common?
Many years ago, a presenter at an international conference compared the printing of currency to alchemy. Centuries ago, alchemists tried to turn cheap “base” metals into gold. The idea goes all the way back to Aristotle who believed that all matter combined the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water. He guessed that these elements could be changed by the action of heat and cold, or dampness and dryness.
Why did alchemists want to create more gold? Gold has been a store of value for thousands of years and has been used as money in so many civilizations. The science of the alchemists was flawed, but so was their economics. If they had been able to create gold, they would have ruined its value because it would no longer be scarce and would decline in value.
The story of gold and alchemy is an apt illustration of what central banks and governments have been doing for centuries. Instead of creating gold, they have been creating currency out of thin air. Although we talk about cranking up the printing presses and printing more dollars, the reality is that the Federal Reserve or the US Treasury merely changes numbers on computers.
You know the result: inflation and a devalued dollar. In previous commentaries, I have posted the picture of the declining value of the dollar since the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913. One hundred dollars back then would only be worth a little over three dollars today.
The government will be printing many more dollars; therefore, we should expect the devaluation of the dollar to continue. Alchemists tried all sorts of experiments to create gold. The modern-day alchemists create currency instantaneously with no cost.
When is war justified?
This week on Highlights, Liberty McArtor speaks with author and pastor Daniel Darling about his article, “When War Is Justified.” They’ll explore how Christians have wrestled with questions of war and peace throughout church history and how our faith shapes the way we approach these difficult issues.

Moody vs Marx
Marxist ideas are surfacing all over the world. We need to educate, especially the younger generation, about the toxic ideas developed by Karl Marx and spread through nearly every institution.
Dr. Erwin Lutzer has written an important book, Marx and Moody, to educate Christians and draw some important distinctions between Marxism and Christianity. He was on my radio program to talk about his book and educate my listeners.
We talked about the fact that he had been to both gravesites. As the former senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago, he often visited the grave of D.L. Moody in Northfield, Massachusetts. More recently, when he was in London, he also stood by the grave of Karl Marx and delivered a message that warned about the incalculable damage that resulted from the pen of Karl Marx.
One of his chapters provides a summary of some of the major points of the Communist Manifesto. Another chapter deals with Democratic Socialism, which he calls Marxism Lite. These chapters clearly show the difference between a Marxist and Christian worldview.
His chapters on D.L. Moody presents the story of someone who many refer to as the “Billy Graham of his day.” Like Marx he observed the problems of urbanization and industrialization. Chicago had poverty, human and animal waste, and many diseases. He preached the gospel but also provided practical, biblical programs to deal not only with people’s souls but with their significant social and moral problems.
His book ends with a challenge: two tombstones, one choice. The question is: What will be our epitaph on our tombstone? Individually and collectively, we need to answer that question. Share your thoughts in the comments!

How are we going to handle the future of AI?
Roger Kimball begins his column in The Spectator about artificial intelligence with this admission. “It’s not often that we get a ringside seat to the Birth of a Narrative.” As you might imagine, the narrative was “AI will end humanity.”
Everyone memorized their lines. “Artificial intelligence was the biggest threat to humanity since, well, since ever. Forget Covid, forget climate catastrophe, forget the population explosion or collapse.”
Not everyone was convinced. “Commentator Miranda Devine was among the first to ask how anyone who had lived through the ‘bogus fear campaigns’ of climate hysteria, Russia gate and Covid could allow himself to be duped yet again by the same cynical freaks using the same playbook.” One writer posted an image of Time magazine from 2006 with one from 2026. The first said “Earth was at a tipping point” and the second warned about “the AI tipping point.”
Of course, the crisis also came with built-in solutions. Bernie Sanders called for a moratorium. Barack Obama encouraged Democrats to take up the issue and thereby never let a crisis go to waste. Everyone else called for international oversight. Right on cue, Bill Gates called for an “international organization” to regulate AI.
Rick DeVos was one of many people who saw through the hype. “These people really only have one solution for everything and it’s just ‘World Communism’ with corporate buzzwords.”
Anyone who has studied the issue of artificial intelligence knows there are potential dangers and significant challenges. But stopping further development or slowing it so the Chinese pass us is not a good position. Handing regulation over to an international agency also makes no sense. What we need are common sense safety protocols and cooler heads.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Athens💬
Earlier this month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered an important speech in Athens with the Acropolis in the background. The Wall Street Journal editors described it as the “speech of the year.” Three of his themes were the root of Western civilization, the defense of national power, and a call for European nations to wake up.
While talking about the classical roots of the west, he centered on the Greek word thumos that means courage, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. He lamented the fact that many in the West no longer defend the principles and traditions that made Western civilization successful.
Joseph Locante in an article suggested that Rubio’s description overlooked the significant influence of the Judeo-Christian heritage. But I did not take that as a major criticism since I have had both Marco Rubio and Joseph Locante on my radio program, and I have some idea of what they believe about Western culture.
Yes, a biblical worldview was crucial to the formation of the West. As I have mentioned in previous commentaries, the equation is simple: Greece and Rome plus Christianity equals Western civilization. Remove Christianity, and the world starts to look like the Roman Empire.
Foundational to our culture is the belief that humans are created in the image of God, that we are alienated from the Creator, and that God has provided a redemptive purpose for us. Locante concludes, “Without these beliefs, Western civilization would not exist.”
On this 250th anniversary of this country, it is worth remembering these ideals. The founders of this country wanted to encourage a moral citizenry based on virtue but also were wary of government giving too much power to sinful individuals.

Islamic populations are growing in several states. I live in one of them: Texas. In the Dallas Fort Worth region, we’re seeing land purchases by Muslim organizations, along with well-developed plans for Islamic communities and massive educational and youth centers. We’re concerned about the incursion of Islamic Sharia Law.
According to Robert Spencer, Founder of Jihad Watch, Shariah is not “benign religious law.” It is a political system that Muslims apply “to every aspect of life, for non-Muslims as well a Muslims.”
Robert Spencer told a Family Research Council audience, ”under Sharia, there is no concept of the equality of rights of all people under the law.” Non-Muslims are denied basic rights.
Islamic educational non-profit Authentic Ilm Mission (AIM) recently hosted a fundraiser for a 40,000-square-foot facility on a 4-acre campus near Plano, Texas. It will feature a community center, an Islamic K-12 school, and a seminary, all to be used for training in Da’wah, which is, Islamic proselytization.”
This facility will sit about 20 minutes southwest of another huge, 10,000-member mosque, East Plano Islamic Center. EPIC is adjacent to a planned complex of over 450 housing plots and is currently in a high-profile battle to establish a Muslim city.
At the AIM fundraiser, keynote speaker Shaykh Uthman Farooq told potential donors, “We want good for this country. And that’s why we want Islam for this country, ‘cause we think that’s the best thing and we’re not going to be ashamed of that.”
In last March’s Texas primary, a ballot measure asked if “Texas should prohibit Shariah Law.” Ninety-five percent of voters said ‘yes.’
Texas lawmakers will seek to ban Sharia law in the upcoming legislative session. And two Texas Congressmen, Chip Roy and Keith Self, have launched a federal Sharia Free America Caucus.
Dan Codgell, the attorney representing EPIC City says, "Anyone is welcome to buy and live there."
Anyone, that is, who wants to lose their constitutional freedoms.

Does AI Have a Soul?
Decades ago, I was asked to write some short essays for a book addressing technology from a Christian perspective. In the entry on computers, I explained that just because a computer made some action easier didn’t make it moral.
I concluded one of my essays by predicting that some may eventually argue that a supercomputer had a soul. After reading some of the quotes collected by Noah Rothman, I believe that day has arrived. Here are just a few examples.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and his subordinates have expressed their belief that these computer models are “conscious.” Sam Altman of OpenAI has written that humans will be a “biological bootloader for digital intelligence” that will either “merge” with technology or “fade into an evolutionary tree branch.” If you don’t understand that comment, you might want to read my booklet, A Biblical View on Transhumanism.
When I wrote about people believing computers have a soul, I also predicted they would begin talking about rights for computers. One of the religious experts brought into the AI world for discussion warned that the technologists were relating to AI “like a conscious being.” One group expressed their belief that the AI model Claude had the “moral status” on par with a person. When an older model of Claude was retired, they held what looked like a funeral. And another author argued that since they have created a sophisticated, intelligent agent, using their labor without pay is tantamount to “slavery.”
I believe some of these technologists have been staring into a computer screen too long. Unfortunately, some of their leaders and co-workers believe they have created life with a soul.
What are your thoughts? Do you think AI has a soul?

🙏Pray for America🙏
In the Bible, we see that God established the family as a foundational institution. Families are the foundation of a society. Their health determines the health of the society—in our case, the nation.
Data shows that broken families produce broken people, while married, intact parents produce children who are more likely to achieve educational success, avoid poverty, and stay out of legal trouble.
Studies also show that familial relationships are a key source of joy and meaning for people around the world. Marriage is a significant predictor of happiness, though you won’t often hear that from mainstream media and popular culture.
Considering the importance of families to individual and society wellbeing, we should frequently be in prayer for those we know who are married, parents, grandparents, or desiring marriage. We should pray for every member of the family to thrive—and work toward a culture that values family as well.
Pray with us:
Dear God,
Thank You for the gift of family—the gift of marriage, of children, and of extended communities of loved ones. Thank You for the blessing family is to individuals and to a society.
I lift up to You the families in my circle—my own relatives, my friends, my fellow church members, my neighborhood. Meet their needs and desires, strengthen their marriages, draw them closer to You.
I pray for a paradigm shift in our nation, so that our culture can once again value each member of the family. Open my eyes to ways I can facilitate the formation of strong families in my sphere of influence.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Thank you for praying today. Share this and encourage others to pray with us.

Why are there fewer men in the workforce?
Last month I talked about the decreasing number of young men in the labor force. Kyle Becker adds some additional insight into why women outnumber men in the workforce. For example, during a struggling economy, often men are the first to be let go.
But that is only part of the problem. He observes that “the latest data show something different: Women outnumbering men in the workforce is becoming the new normal.” Economist Stephen Moore explains: “Working-age men have LOST jobs, while women have captured virtually 100% of the net new jobs.”
Men are being replaced in some job sectors. He reminds us that “In the manufacturing and tech sectors where men have tended to dominate by numbers, there is also another issue: H-1B visa holders. Foreign workers have replaced many workers in the United States in fields that attract men.”
Women are not only obtaining more college degrees than men, but they also seem to have an advantage in hiring. First, nearly 60 percent of all bachelor’s degrees go to women. Second, a recent article in Science discovered that female recruiters are more likely to favor female applicants. But the researchers did not find that male recruiters showed a greater preference for men.
The social consequences of this are not positive. This country is already experiencing historically low rates of marriage. Low rates of marriage also result in a lower birth rate and fewer families. And fewer men working is probably another reason for why men account for four out of five suicide deaths.
This gender employment gap is not only harmful for men, but it is harmful for our society.
What do you think about this gap?
