Yes, you read that correctly. @Thameswater has been dumping sewage into the River Misbourne, a chalk stream, for 5,000 hours so far this year. And there's still five and a half months of 2024 left.
Heading towards 5000 hours of discharge for 2024 alone. This EDM was only been operational since late 2023 and has almost been discharging 100% of the time since commissioning. @thameswater

This is massive Supreme Court rules WCs can sued for nuisance or trespass for dumping sewage even if “There has been no negligence or deliberate misconduct”, by the WC That opens the way for 1,000s of claims by fishing clubs, swimmers, riparian owners against WCs. WOW just WOW!

Today is the first day of the new fishing season. A sunny day in Manchester and sewage is being dumped in the River Irwell — the most sewage-infested river in England. A blight on our great city @AndyBurnhamGM. Read the link and watch the clip fishingfiend.net/

Excellent investigation & analysis of illegal sewage spills by English water companies. Uses a very generous threshold for dry spills too. 4 days with no rain. EA need to get their criminal case done - over 2 and a half years now. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4nn…

‼️ Breaking news ‼️ You can now sign Save Windermere’s new open letter. Go to savewindermere.com and join Chris Packham and Paul Whitehouse, who are calling for all political parties to commit to giving Windermere greater protection ahead of the General Election. Please also share across social media platform using the hashtag #savewindermere. As well as adding your name you can send an email to your MP. In the face of a changing climate, not enough has been done by government or regulators to protect England’s most iconic lake from sewage dumping. Currently, Windermere does not benefit from any special designation or enhanced protection, to appropriately reflect the economic, environmental and cultural significance of the lake. Save Windermere is calling for a complete end to sewage pollution in England’s largest lake. This will give Windermere the protection that is required to ensure it is adaptable to climate change and to ensure a lasting environmental legacy for this country forever. Environmental protection does not seem to fit into our political framework. We need people to act now to protect our natural resources for the next 1000 years, not just for the next election cycle. The protection of Windermere should not be politicised and it should not be contentious, this is about the long term protection of one of this country’s greatest natural assets for future generations. This letter is backed by @ChrisGPackham , Paul Whitehouse, @sascampaigns , @WildlifeTrusts , @WildFishCons , @SOSWhitstable , @CPRE , @Campaign4Parks , @cumbriawildlife , @FriendsofLakes , @WindrushWasp @CleanIlkley , the Matson Grounds estate , and @GraythwaiteW1ld . More will be added to this initial list in the coming weeks. If you’re a business or organisation that wants to add your name to the letter please reach out. Our full statement can be found on savewindermere.com You can also support us by donating to our new crowdfunder which has just exceeded £14,000. crowdfunder.co.uk/p/save-win…
