Week Four: The DAWG Standard — Putting It All Together
TEAM,
As we enter Week Four, it’s time to take everything we’ve talked about over the first three weeks and put it all together.
We’ve focused on the Three DAWG Pillars of Success: Conduct, Commitment and Drive. Each matters, but they are not three separate things. Together, they create one standard:
THE DAWG STANDARD.
And that connects directly to the TEAM Motto our Seniors established:
EARN EVERYTHING.
Nothing about being part of this TEAM is given. Trust is earned. Respect is earned. Opportunities are earned. Leadership is earned. Success is earned. And becoming a DAWG is earned.
As we begin Week Four, we recognize four players who exemplify what it means to put these pillars together.
Our Week Four Practice Players/DAWGs of the Week are senior running back Alexander Winkles, representing the offense, and junior defensive back Roman Shewchuk, representing the defense. Both had excellent weeks of practice on the field and in the weight room, consistently demonstrating the qualities we expect from a DAWG.
Joining Alexander and Roman as our four Game Captains for this week’s home game against Merritt Island are senior offensive lineman Sean Hassan and senior defensive lineman Alex Urdzik. Both had solid weeks of practice, bringing their best effort to every drill and every rep.
Congratulations to all four. Thank you for setting the example of what it means to EARN EVERYTHING.
Now, let’s use their example to challenge ourselves.
CONDUCT — EARN TRUST
Control your attitude, body language and punctuality. How you carry yourself tells your TEAM what they can expect from you.
COMMITMENT — EARN RESPONSIBILITY
Be prepared. Be coachable. Do the extra. Take ownership of your preparation and development.
DRIVE — EARN RESPECT
Bring effort, energy, passion and work ethic. A DAWG shows his drive when he’s tired, frustrated, challenged and when nobody is watching.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Conduct is how you carry yourself.
Commitment is how you prepare.
Drive is how you challenge yourself.
When you consistently bring all three to everything you do, you become the teammate, player, student and person this TEAM needs.
That is what EARN EVERYTHING means.
Don’t expect it. Don’t demand it. Don’t assume you deserve it.
Earn it.
Earn the trust. Earn the respect. Earn the opportunity. Earn the leadership. Earn the success. And most importantly, earn the right to be called a DAWG.
We don’t want to simply talk about the Three DAWG Pillars anymore.
We want to live them.
Every practice. Every rep. Every classroom. Every Friday night.
Conduct. Commitment. Drive.
That’s the DAWG Standard.
That’s who we are.
That’s how we EARN EVERYTHING.
LIVE THE DAWG STANDARD.
EARN EVERYTHING.
DO IT TOGETHER.

Practice Players/DAWGs of the Week
Congratulations to our two Practice Players/DAWGs of the Week, junior linebacker Teagan Hertzberg and junior offensive lineman and starting center Brayden Holmes.
Both Teagan and Brayden have consistently demonstrated discipline and grit, not just during this past week, but throughout our entire journey, dating back to January in the weight room.
Teagan continues to work his way up the depth chart, earning opportunities through his preparation, effort, and commitment. Brayden, our starting center, continues to embrace his role while challenging himself to become the best player he can be for the TEAM.
Their paths may be different, but their approach is the same: show up, do the work, embrace coaching, and consistently pursue excellence.
Congratulations to Teagan and Brayden for setting the example and representing themselves and our TEAM as committed DAWGs. Their actions demonstrate what it means to live the Three DAWG Pillars of Success: Conduct, Commitment, and Drive.
Iron Sharpens Iron.
