Recent events should challenge us to critically reflect/ actively listen more. These are NOT soft skills but complex actions needed for a democratic future facing education. We need to radically rethink their curriculum position. Our Explorers Guides embed within drama.
Replying to @StorymakersCo
Our Explorer's Guide was once again designed by @lisa_stephenso to support teachers exploring the narrative with a helpful framework and a series of engaging creative activities. We also had valuable contributions from our patron @rapclassroom and @storyriver

I also argue in my researchthat visual skills are a foundational skill for reading. This includes visual attention, visual discrimination, visual memory and visual sequential memory. Reading is not just an auditory process @NC_MrStones

Just this. Curriculum should be immersed in story and led by story. We have a phenomenal capacity to remember story.
Why we should be using more stories in the curriculum New post disq.us/t/3kea2ze

Love this activity! Often do this with adults! Interestingly, someone once asked if they could include a book they really disliked, as that had shaped them as a reader too. Hadn't thought about that!
The children finished off their Reading Journeys today. The activity was secondary to all the wonderful book talk but they have loved seeing them in a book. I’ve put it in the school library and it’s joyful to see their love of books bubbling in talk. #readingrocks

"Teenagers who read fiction almost every day score around 26 points higher on the PISA reading test than those who never read such books... This is likely to be particularly important for boys from lower socio-economic backgrounds," reports @FFTEduDatalab: bit.ly/2JhuxXH

When children are able to choose their own subjects to write about, you still have a context for them to develop specific skills of writing but you learn so much more about them in the process. #WritesOfPassage
