Let's amend the 2nd Amendment in a way that simple #gunsense minds can understand its intended purpose:

Three years later and it's still 100% true: millions of peaceable Americans own these firearms precisely because they're effective for self-defense in a civilian context, and banning them is as idiotic as it is unconstitutional.

Giffords: "Military features clearly distinguish assault weapons from standard sporting firearms; these features are what enable shooters to fire many rounds quickly and accurately, with or without the use of sights, while retaining control of the weapon." giffords.org/press-release/2…

Their bill exempts police and all sorts of non law-enforcement government agencies.
If their position is these are "tools of war" meant to kill efficiently that have no place in our communities, then no government personnel should have them either, except military.
Assault weapons are tools of war, meant to kill efficiently. They have no place in our communities. Congress must vote to pass the #assaultweaponsban and get these weapons off of our streets.

This desperate flailing by the State was clearly not thought through at all. If all that is protected is guns "commonly used for lawful self defense", then the Second Amendment does not protect bolt action rifles, double barrel shotguns, and other fudd guns.
Replying to @2Aupdates
LMAO is this really what they are going with?
While AR-15s have been used for self-defense, the quote from Heller (which this omits) discuss lawful purposes, of which self defense is only one. Hunting and recreation count too.

Wait wait wait.
Are you saying muzzle velocity is why you can fire "more rounds in less time" with an "assault weapon"? Because that's hilarious.
The difference in muzzle velocity makes no practical difference in how fast you can fire again.

One problem with the Second Amendment is that the Founding Fathers assumed people 250 years in the future would have good reading comprehension skills. The militia is regulated. The government is prohibited from infringing on the right. 🙄

Ironic how House Democrats are about to cause a massive spike in "assault weapon" and "high capacity" magazine sales in response to news of them passing a bill that none of them think will become law
