I agree . Please propose a realistic strategy for getting Putin to stop fighting. Without that , everything else is virtue signaling (or I told you so, back in 2022, 2021, 2008, etc) I don’t associate you with virtue signaling. You are someone who makes things happen. Lean in.

The endless slaughter of Ukrainian and Russians must stop. We should some sympathy for the poor Russian conscripts too. Those kids have no choice but to fight and die in drone strikes.

That the Communist hammer and sickle isn’t commonly regarded as evil and offensive as the Nazi swastika is a failure of education.
“Dear Italian students, who today take to the streets carrying flags with the hammer and sickle and wearing T-shirts emblazoned with ‘CCCP’,” began an open letter in Italian by Lithuanian expat Neringa Budryt. “I would like to ask you a question: do you truly know what the symbols you carry represent? And do you know what would have happened to many of you had you openly demonstrated in countries living under the oppression of communist regimes? Let me tell you something. It is easy to display a red flag when, for you, communism is merely an abstract idea of equality, social justice, and rebellion against the system. It is easy to wear a T-shirt with "CCCP" on it when you have never experienced the reality of a communist regime. We come from that part of Europe where communism was not a T-shirt, a symbol of rebellion, or a romanticized notion of equality. It was the system in which we lived—a system we never chose. We know the history of Soviet repression, Stalinist purges, the Gulags, and mass deportations. Above all, we know the word "Siberia"—a place to which thousands of innocent people were forcibly deported, simply for thinking differently. In Siberia—amidst freezing cold, starvation, and forced labor—many lost their lives; those who survived carried the scars of that experience forever. Entire families were torn apart, and generations were denied the chance to live freely in their own homeland. In the countries of the Soviet bloc, censorship, political police, surveillance, and the suppression of dissent drastically curtailed individual freedoms. We grew up in a system where state control permeated even our daily lives. At school, we were required to wear the red necktie of the "Pioneers." We were monitored; they tracked where we went and even whether we attended church. Even faith—a choice that should belong to an individual’s own conscience—could become a cause for suspicion. We used to celebrate Christmas with our windows blacked out, to ensure no one would see us and report us. Because it was forbidden—just like so many other things: jeans, rock music, and all the symbols of a Western lifestyle. My mother returned from a Soviet labor camp. And do you know what happened to her? She was barred from continuing her education because she had been labeled an enemy of communism. Under a communist regime, you could not protest. You risked arrest, imprisonment, interrogation, persecution—and, in certain historical contexts, even death. In the Soviet Union and other communist regimes, political dissent could cost you your freedom and your life. Demonstrations independent of the authorities were not a guaranteed right; they were often suppressed by force. That is why it strikes me to see young Italians proudly displaying the hammer and sickle—symbols associated with regimes that persecuted and imprisoned millions of people. Today, you are free to take to the streets, shout against the government, criticize institutions, and wave your flags precisely because you live in a democracy that grants you these freedoms. Under an authoritarian regime of that kind, protesting against those in power could have landed you in prison. This is not about denying the existence of social injustices, inequalities, or the right to fight for a better world. You are free to take to the streets to demand a more just society—but you should not idealize a system that denied so many people the very things you are free to exercise today: the right to choose, to believe, to speak, and to dissent. Before wearing a T-shirt with "CCCP" on it, listen to those who experienced that world. Talk to the deportees and their descendants; read the accounts of those who endured the gulags and forced exile to Siberia. Learn what it meant to be stripped of your freedom, your home, your loved ones—and even any prospect of a normal life—simply because of your background or your beliefs. Before waving the hammer and sickle, please, study history thoroughly.”

I remember sitting around a campfire shortly after the Ukraine war had just started with some Ukrainian friends. They shared that after they learned that Russian forces were jamming all communications they called Elon begging for Starlink support. Elon and the Starlink team instantly dropped everything they were working on, loaded a private jet with as many Starlink terminals as they could (terminals were in short supply at the time), and started flying the jet eastward while writing code to make terminals work over Ukraine. There was no contract or promise of payment for doing so, and no time to solve for that. My Ukrainian friends believed this saved the nation of Ukraine, and that without this effort Ukraine would have lost the war nearly instantly.

Starlink is the critical backbone for the age of intelligence. Difficult for most to realize what 100x bandwidth looks like or even why it’s needed. This is one possible version of that future.
If you’re curious what Starlink and Elon are cooking w respect to connectivity… our model suggests the future looks something like this… Every line is a launch and every dot is a sat. Big mistake most make is assuming Starlink will perpetually be a niche and rural service…

Correct. Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be. Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them. Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week. Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact. Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia. SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR. That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell. End of story.
STARLINK WORKS THE SAME WAY ITS ALWAYS WORKED. ITS NOT A WEAPONS SYSTEM, NO MATTER HOW MUCH UKRAINE WANTS IT TO BE.

Jason Calacanis calls Kara Swisher a "Karen" and hypocrite for attacking Elon’s SpaceX share gift while saying Democrats should put him in jail “I think she had multiple videos. One of them is it’s only one share and that they should just give money directly to people. And, it’s obviously what the reason that’s incredibly stupid is you should give any possible gift that people are willing to give and forcing people to hold on to it makes them part of capitalism." "And Kara Swisher makes $10 million a year from her podcast. She talks about it all the time. She is of the 0.1 or 0.01%. She should give half of her podcasting revenue if she’s so virtuous to Invest America accounts." "And she’s also saying they should be putting Elon in jail and that the Democrats are going to do that if they win. So there’s like kind of a doubling there. But she’s, she’s a Karen and she’s a hypocrite.”
Chamath reveals a major US bank cut AWS and Google Cloud spending and built six independent data centers, because companies increasingly want control over their own data “I see that at 8090 as well. I think the large companies that we work with, you can almost pinpoint it on a chart. Ever since Alex Karp’s commentary on CNBC about data sovereignty, buying patterns have changed. And I think people are being a lot more methodical. “They are building out their own data centers, or at least moving into VPCs, virtual public clouds. My team yesterday was at the CIO event of, let’s say, one of the largest banks in America. “You know what they said? I’m not going to say the name of the bank. It was the most incredible thing. They said, ‘We have decreased our spend on AWS and GCP. We now have six completely independent ground-up data centers that we’ve built from scratch for ourselves.’ “And I was like, ‘What is going on here?’”

The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient. This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.” I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.

This is the last morning of Jonestown, filmed by an NBC crew on November 18, 1978. Within 24 hours almost everyone you see here was dead, including the man behind the camera. The night before, a man named Vernon Gosney had walked up to an NBC reporter and slipped him a note: “Please help us get out of Jonestown.” Gosney had mistaken reporter Don Harris for the congressman. Congressman Leo Ryan had flown into the jungle of Guyana with the crew to find out whether Jim Jones was holding Americans there against their will. Around 900 members of Jones’s Peoples Temple lived in that settlement. In the video below Harris sits down with Jones, shows him the note, and asks about people who want to leave. Jones says they’re lying and want to destroy Jonestown. That afternoon about 15 people left with Ryan’s group and drove to the Port Kaituma airstrip. Temple members pulled up on a tractor and opened fire. NBC cameraman Bob Brown kept filming the shooters until they shot him. Ryan, Harris, Brown, a newspaper photographer and one of the defectors died on that airstrip. Gosney was shot too and survived. The same evening Jones ordered his followers to drink cyanide mixed into a fruit drink, and some were forced. 909 people died in Jonestown, more than 270 of them children. Jones was found with a gunshot wound to the head. Did showing Jones that note on camera help those people get out, or did it set off everything that happened next?

speaking hypothetically imagine you raise lots of money on the back of a whitepaper on fast-AI-take-off and deploy it into a combination of private AI plays and long-short leveraged public exposures you grow, insanely and get to managing $120b gross on the public book. further imagine you get caught out by a market-burble on your public book and force-liquidated out but are saved by the value of the private exposure which has gone vertical even further imagine that the primary private exposure is lining up to IPO, talking to bankers, preparing to float. you, the fund manager, want to you-know actually manage funds rather than simply sitting on a very valuable private exposure, and the bankers, now fully read in on and with a fairly decent sense of the value of your private exposure and line of site on the liquidity of the position are suddenly willing to accept some chunk--perhaps all--of your private exposure as collateral. you reload. (in the meantime many of the names that you previously were levered long on have rallied, but the whole trade is up-and-right in your view and so you put a lot of additional leverage on) a small market burble. marginally less wildly crazy aggressive monetization flows through your private exposure (as measured quarter on quarter), crossed with some geopolitical uncertainty. you're caught out again. again! as the book moves against you and moves against you again. as you grow increasingly desperate, hoping you can survive until the IPO or at least the s-1 listing, which will provide the market with more tangible evidence of the volume of end demand, you cover and cover, your equity against the underlying collateral getting whittled down and shaved off. but it's too late for you. too late. (which is how, hypothetically, the entire market got wrong-footed on the liquidation of the same fund manager twice in the same year.)

Alex Gibney's "Musk" documentary hits every US theater this week. Four hours, full of lies. Expect the attacks on Elon to be legion. Why? Because what he's building threatens a world that runs on scarcity. Expensive houses. Expensive schools. Expensive everything. Abundance is terrible news for everyone who profits from things staying expensive. If you want to understand why he's the target, watch this video. It's also why I'm super optimistic.

Some fools still think the legacy news is real. Amazing.
