There are as many definitions of liberalism as there are liberals, but a focus on the future over the past, a recognition of the basic dignity of every human being, and an openness to a diversity of both people and ideas are hallmarks of them all.

Liberalism has always been about one thing: the individual's right to choose. That's not a partisan position — it's a constitutional one.

Liberalism isn't complicated. Your life is yours. Mine is mine.

"If we had a high enough tariff on the import of bananas it could become profitable to build hot houses and grow bananas in those hot houses. That would give employment. Would that be a sensible thing to do?" – Milton Friedman

Government and society are not the same thing. Skepticism of the state is not skepticism of human cooperation. It's the opposite — it's believing people can solve problems without being forced to.

Free speech isn't just a right for the person talking. It's also a right for the listener.

Being liberal means recognizing that some problems are too big for any one person to solve alone. Clean power, fast trains, more housing — these require collective action through government that actually works.

Societies don't decay from external threats alone. They rot from the inside when assumptions go unquestioned, and beliefs harden into dogma. Progress has always required each generation to challenge what came before.

America isn't a country that tolerates minorities. America is minorities. Every one of us belongs to one. If we allow any minority to lose its freedom by persecution or by prejudice, We are threatening our own freedom.

Most people come to philosophy wanting to be told how to live. But wanting definitive answers is an abdication of personal responsibility. The point is clarity, not obedience.

What Friedman described as the “invisible harms” of tariffs — higher prices, fewer jobs outside of protected industries — are becoming more visible by the day, and the “visible benefits” harder and harder to spot.

JD Vance wants you poorer and calls it happiness. By every metric of human dignity and prosperity, liberal globalization wins. Postliberal declinism loses. It is a failed ideology of the past that belongs to stay in the dustbin of history.
This is one of the most effective pieces of opposition research on Vance in a year. He's literally saying, clearly and in public, that he thinks it's bad that things are cheap for consumers, and he wants to end one of America's greatest privileges and strategic advantages of holding world's reserve currency. Republicans, wake up to where your party is headed. If this ideology isn't extracted from the party root and stem, America will simply never recover from this.

Governments must serve the people. All people are created equal. Your life is yours to live. Peace requires strength. Free enterprise creates abundance. Truth exists and it matters. The status quo is unacceptable. If you agree, you're a liberal.
