Had a great night at @CML_LDN tonight, where the panel has a detailed discussion about stablecoins, and how they’ve matured into real world money so rapidly. The panel was moderated by Helen Disney from Unblocked and included the very popular Reuben Blamey making GBP stablecoins at Agant, Kate Rhodes from @Mastercard & Juan Ignacio Ibañez from the MiCA Crypto Alliance One of the topics briefly mentioned that was of particular interest was how do we maintain decentralisation, in a world where centralised stablecoins are the ones being adopted the most? Additionally how do we make sure stablecoins DO NOT BECOME CBDCS!!!

With Token2049 wrapped up in Singapore 🇸🇬, here are my 5 key takeaways: 1. There is a significant divide between what Eastern and Western markets value in DeFi. This is reflected in the chains that dominate each region, with only a few outliers managing to dominate both. 2. Companies that have survived this bear market have built a core community of users. As the bull market returns and more companies launch and compete for market share, retaining that community will be crucial. 3. The consistency between conversations with people online and those you have with them IRL reveals a lot about someone’s true character and whether they are worth working with. 4. The younger generation definitely has an edge in DeFi, yet older stakeholders often discredit this. They fail to realise that a 20-something-year-old with 5+ years of hands-on DeFi experience, working in the trenches, can bring more value than an older person with more experience in hands-off roles. 5. We are still very early. Stablecoins are only now beginning to gain widespread international adoption, while DeFi still has so much more to offer. This is a good sign for all the founders continuing to innovate in the space. Bonus point: Singapore is a beautiful country. Despite the haze from Indonesia, it remains one of my top 5 countries in the world, thanks to its safety, people, culture, nature, aesthetics, and, of course, luxury. 🇸🇬
